Ambient occlusion and shadows problems

Recommended Posts

For past month I've noticed increased problems with ambient occlusion and shadows in DayZ and I'm wondering if you have the same experience?

All "dark" spots created by ambient occlusion are flickering/moving while the camera or character is running. It's mostly visible on buildings roofs or window frames. Additionaly, when there is a grass clutter in front of some object like wall or building, it leaves weird white/bright shine around it.
Regarding shadows, it seems like their render distance is super low. Shadows created by roofs/tiles or other parts of the building are really pixelated/dotted and also turn from high to low res really close to the player. Shadows casted for example by trees on buildings looks way better but also has really close range.

Does anyone noticed that also lately or I'm just going crazy and it was always like that in DayZ?
Of course I talk about extreme/maxed settings.

Anyone else think it's quite bad? I think it was better few updates before...

With all the flaws that DayZ has, you complain about this?
I honestly don't even look back. If I understand correctly it's just a problem with the rendering of some graphic effects. I think every video game has enough of them.
Have you noticed the problem with the light?
Have you ever noticed that often, as you turn, it appears and disappears? In many game situations, day and night?
Have you ever noticed that, often, the light from fireworks passes through the thick stone/brick walls of city apartment buildings?
Just to list some macroscopic defects that have lasted a long time.
I, as a habit already in Battlefield, have always set to zero (or minimum) everything that refers to "dynamic lights" or "dynamic shadows" ... I need to be able to see what's inside the shadowed corners, I can't have "black" areas (too dangerous), and I don't even like it aesthetically (too rough and too dark anyway).
In any case, even the rendering of everything else, comes and goes, appears and disappears... how you move, how you turn... without any real logic... it's DayZ... it's a game full of defects... with every patch they fix some and add others...
I've been playing since 2020 and I've always seen it this way, but from what I read, DayZ has always been in this situation... and I fear it will continue like this... in "perpetual beta".
I think the only possibility is to accept it and decide whether it's more the "fun" sides (then you put up with the defects) or more the "defective" sides (then you change the game).
Anyway, if you're sure of this defect, you could open a ticket to the B.I. ... with a bit of luck, if they accept it as a "defect", maybe they could fix it, sooner or later... but I think it will be a drop in the ocean.
Best wishes 😉
