I don't think this type of error is due to "an old character", it's a problem that affects many people and I've read many about it, but I don't think it's ever been solved.
It's pissed me off a few times in the past, but I just waited for it to "go away on its own". Sometimes in all servers, sometimes only in some. Then, as it came, so it went away... on its own.
I also tried everything I found on the net... (also search for "WaitAuthPlayerLoginState") but nothing had changed the problem... just waiting for it to "go away on its own".
I'm sorry I can't help more.
Try opening a ticket on the B.I. Feedback site, maybe they can help...
