Prone invisible / no running

Recommended Posts

Hi, all:

Been playing the game for a couple of days, and have been enjoying it immensely. I have two newbie questions I'm hoping I can get answered:

1. While camped out on a roof of an industrial building somewhere, I watched two players navigating around the surrounding area. Both remained prone and both seemed to move without regard to the zombies around them, even going so far as to approach within inches of the zombies and pass them by. Do you remain basically invisible to zombies so long as you're prone? I finally found a knife and some food and don't really feel like experimenting and risking my first loot to find out first-hand. Anyway, the game is going to be made a lot easier if all I have to do is remain prone whenever there are zombies around.

2. A few minutes ago I hurdled a fence, and immediately afterward I found I could no longer run -- not while crouched, not while standing. I waited a few minutes, thinking maybe I was just tired, but no luck. A while later I switched into and out of first-person view, and afterward found I could run again. Is this a bug? Or was I just tired or hungry or something? Any clue?

These are just the first of what I'm sure will be many questions. I appreciate any help.

-Stephen

1. Zombies spot you at about 3-5 meters even when prone and not moving, although I wish it weren't so.

2. It may help to try right clicking or get your torch out.

2. The things that may cause your character to sneak / walk slowly are double tapping shift, which inverts the sneaking so when you hold shift you will run and when you don't you will sneak and vice-versa.

Another is if you right-click to aim down sights, even without any weapons this will slow you down and sometimes you have both double tapped shift AND are aiming down sights so you got to try all the solutions to run again.

1. If your sound and visibility indicators are at zero a zed will pretty much have to trip over you to see you, but this is only likely at night in the grass. As long as they are not facing you directly you can prone past with only a few metres of breathing space.

2. I had an issue like this the other day after a respawn. Shift tapping didnt seem to toggle my run back on and could only walk or sprint by double tapping W. It was only after I picked up a maky that I noticed that I must have double tapped Q earlier as I was constantly leaning left, which doesnt show up when your unarmed.

1. While prone, you're visible from about 1 meter. If you move while prone, you're audible from about 1.5-2 meters. In context of most movement, you're pretty much invisible to the zeds - as long as you don't try and pick one's pocket, they won't spot you. At night, you're pretty much invisible no matter what you do, as visibility is reduced to .5m and you're only detected by noise.

2. The other posts have it down - you probably double tapped something (lean, sneak/run toggle, etc) that threw off your movement.

Thank you for the replies, all. I could have sworn the players I was watching were moving around pretty much directly underfoot the zombies, but maybe it was just a byproduct of my perspective or something.

Thank you also for the tips about double-taps. I knew about double-shift (and had tried that as a remedy), but not about the others. If it happens again I'll know what to experiment with.
