How do you add waypoints to map?

When I watch streams I see people who put down waypoints on their map and then it shows them a marker when they're in game which tells them the distance and they can just go straight to it.

How do you do that? I've tried clicking and stuff can't figure it out. I can drop map markers with names, but I can't figure out how to get a "current objective" type thing that shows up outside of the map.

shift click on the map - keep in mind that waypoints might be disabled on the server you are on.

Thanks. Anyone know what server setting I need if I want map "current objective" indicator enabled, no crosshair, no white circles over players/zombies, and 3rd person on?

You need to have a GPS to have waypoints that appear in your HUD. Shift-click the map to set a visible waypoint. Waypoints are only visible to your unique GPS, which means if someone picks it up they'll get your waypoint.

Now, on maps, you can put markers. THOSE are visible to everyone in the game, and are added by pressing "M (map hotkey) -> Notes -> Double LMB"

there is a difference between markers (double click) and waypoints (shift click). Markers can be seen by every one but your waypoint (you can have only 1 at any given time) is only visible to you (if the server is set to display it). For those waypoints you don't need a GPS. Dont know how having a GPS affects your HUD display (if waypoints are disabled on that server).
