The only thing needed to make player work together

What would happen to solo-bandits...? :P

They would have to stay super sharp or die.

My point is that enemies like smokers and hunters or pretty easy to take down for two or more players. But solo, if you don't see them they can be a real issue.

Make them, or their equivalent, super rare, but enough of a threat that safety in numbers becomes more of a necessity.

I mean, if you want to encourage acting co-operatively. Make a threat that only true co-operation can solve.

Not to mention the fact that potentially saving a strangers life would be awesome.

I'd be all for new zombie types. How is this not a useful thread?

I think a better idea would be to make humanity persistent even after death and to have some kind of cue which shows a survivors humanity level.

Not necessarily bringing the bandit skin back, maybe something else like a coloured nametag for regular servers.

Hell, I thought this was another troll's thread, but it makes some sense. A zombie class that grabs players or knocks them out with 100% chance, that could work if they spawn only in very specific areas. If they were all around the map then solo playing would be very hard, so better to keep them around top tier loot spawns for instance.

However, it only pushes players a bit more to play along other people outside the game, it doesn't deal with trust related issues.
