Hi there! Tips for a new player?

Recommended Posts

Heya. I just bought Combined Operations, and downloaded the Day-Z mod and I'm looking for a few tips, as I've run into nothing but trouble so far.

Now, the issues I'm having are probably little things, but to start off; the inability to equip the Hatchet while I have a primary gun - I managed to find a Lee Enfield, but had no ammo for it, but at the same time I didn't want to leave it. But since I can't put it in my inventory, I'm basically defenseless. Does anyone have a solution to that? I managed to get a hatchet, but well.. I couldn't do much either.

Secondly, I'm curious about how zombie spawns work - in the few videos I've seen of people(I've been watching a Let's Play by a Youtuber I'm subscribed to), and the zombie spawns don't seem NEARLY as heavy as it was when I was playing - there were five zombies in a single barnhouse, which was when I had my first death.

Thirdly, again.. I watched a few videos - mind you, these ARE newer videos. Only about a week old, tops. And somehow this person escapes zombies with relative ease by outrunning them, yet I have to run a pretty significant distance to outrun them.

And last but not least, I seem to have an issue with syncing on servers where I'll have brief frame skips whenever I begin loading into a new area, causing me to be unable to do anything for that brief second. Now, I'm not sure if it's my connection, but I know it is internet related. I'm not sure if anyone else has this or not, but it was common during Everquest(an older MMO) whenever they hadn't perfected syncing with players and their game.

But anyways, thanks for reading! Sorry for any stupid questions.

About the hatchet and Enfield, both of them are Primary Weapons and occupies the same "slot", but the hatchet can be moved to the toolbet while the Enfield cannot, IMO it's better to have a Hatchet in hands than a Enfield without ammo, UNLESS you have a secondary weapon, like a Makarov/Revolver etc.

About zombies, you can outrun them with ease if you enter buildings that have 2 exits, zombies are slowed inside buildings, you enter by one side and get out by another and they get slowed inside the building, if you can't do that and you're in a city, you can try make them lose Line of Sight of you, by turning around houses/buildings and then going prone or something.

As you are getting closer to buildings that 'spawns zombies', they'll be spawning outside and inside the building, every building has a maximum of zombies inside/outside spawn per player. And if I'm no mistaken, the max number of zombies spawned to each player is 30.

About desyncing, I've some desync sometimes but it was server related, switching servers was enough to fix that.

And that's that, english isn't my native languange so I apologize about major mistakes, I hope it's understandable.

Good luck

Be very careful with another players, there are many not looking just to survive but to loot you of all your belongings. When running from place A to B don't just cross a huge field but rather follow the treeline to avoid getting sniped. Big cities and airfields are very dangerous places so if you want a long life you might want to avoid these. Gearing up elsewhere is easy enough.

One more question - if a server has more people on it, are zombie spawns a little bit lessened? I usually try to join a server with fewer people on it(15-25), and then try and learn the ropes a little bit, but I always seem to run into large amounts of zombies.

On that matter - is it better to join a server with more population, or less population?

If you have a backpack with at least 10 empty slots, you can solve your problem simply stocking the Einfield on it (10 slots per secondary weapons plus 1 slot per ammo).

Also, I would not start shooting zombies with a rifle, the noise will attract a lot more, and well, with lucky you will be doomed in a few minutes.

About your last question, the zombies will only spawn in the 'right' places. They do NOT spawn on the forest, for example.

According to Marknetic up there, there is a maximum number of 30 zombies that can spawn per player, but that will only happen if the player are on a spawnable place.

I am not sure if I got a point here.

Suppose that you are entering a city that have two players inside, they are on spawnable places and they are also walking/running through the city. I guess it will spawn a max of 60 zombies plus the ones you will make spawn when you get closer. So you can easily run into a large groups of zombies. Take care.

On servers with more players you will be obviously more vulnerable to other players and larger groups of zombies. BUT, you can think that is good, because with some experience and patience you can kill and loot players, or trap them all as well.

But if you are learning yet, I will definitely recommend servers with less population. :D
