LU115 Zelenogorsk firefight

Recommended Posts

On the offchance that any of your group read this, Good Fight! I'm really glad that you didnt decide to abuse server hopping or simply leaving to get out of a bad situation, it was a blast! I thought it deserved a mention because way too many people nowadays log off/alt f4 at the first sign of trouble while you guys stuck it out through the worst possible.

Untill we meet again!

From what I heard it was a glorious battle, too bad I logged off moments before.

What started out as a simple ambush escalated into a 30 minute long firefight with 2 of our group left standing, and the whole opposition wiped out. Definately a fraps-worthy day for all involved. And like DayWalkeR said, thanks for not abusing disconnect, we'd already had a group of 6 disconnect earlier when we caught them in the open field, along with various solo players disconnecting at the first sound of a weapon being fired, breaks the immersion and adds to the frustration :(

The battle involved 13 extremely well armed individuals in a 30-35 minute engagement covering the entire span of western Zelenogorsk that ended with 10 dead humans and easily 50-70 zombies. The victory was in the end had by our group with 2 standing survivors who secured all the bodies for our dead to loot.

As for the rough run-down for those interested:

PRELUDE:

On a quiet lush supply run into Zelenogorsk Supermarket by 3 of our team one of our 4 hidden lookouts noticed a small movement afar in the scenic distance in the southern edges of Zelenorgosk essentially trapping 3 of us in Zelenogorsk who could no longer retreat north without being seen. Yet with the number of zombies in Zelenogorsk staying wasn't an option either. The enemy team, unsure of their true numbers, converged onto the farm. Establishing themselves clearly in southern Zelenogorsk.

The fighting began.

PHASE 1: FIRST CONTACT

We suffered the first casualty with losing one of our men near the farm who went on a reconnaissance mission but was noticed and quickly overwhelmed. It was then discovered that the other team had a total of 6 men.

The siege began.

PHASE 2: The Siege

They could not judge our numbers. Perhaps they vainly believed they had superior numbers. By this time 2 of us had flanked out of the city. All entrances to the forest were blocked. Sniper fights were happening at the barn window.

Zombies started going in frenzy with the amount of firepower being unleashed by 10+ players. Indiscriminately the zombies were assaulting both teams.

Our team does a tactical retreat after the engagement went on for a good 15 minutes. The amount of high calibre rounds being fired meant that we could run the risk of other groups of players curious about the noise level might come up behind us. We were in the open unlike the other barricaded team. We re-group on the north side of Zelenogorsk leaving the southern exit of the barn unguarded.

PHASE 2: THE 1ST BREAK-OUT

The other team attempts a break out of the barn and looting the body of our fallen comrade. 2 of their team died for this mistake being quickly cut down. The remaining 4 sprint back to the barn back to cover. Another stand-off begins.

PHASE 3: THE SIEGE II

As of this point our team evaluates our options. We decide that based on the terrain they would probably not retreat south into the woods where early 2 of our team were firing suppressive shots onto the southern barn entrance. They could not see us and we could easily pick them off from behind trees.

They would not retreat north into Zelenegorsk town into the hive of Zombies. Not on the risk that we could then flank them and keep them trapped. Forcing them to either fight themselves out of the town surrounded by enemies on the high ground. Or log out in a town filled with zombies.

Their break-out attempt would either be west or east. East was unlikely since it would leave them much more vulnerable to sniper fire. West was the most promising. They would get into the hills quickly and safe from sniper fire if they survived the short sprint.

With the above in mind. Our group split up. To set up an ambush on the western dirt road by the Green Tower. 3 of our group armed with assault rifles are enroute to the area.

Phase 4: THE FINAL BREAK-OUT & BATTLE FOR GREEN TOWER

As of this point perhaps by providence or bad luck. 3 of the remaining 4 enemy being in an untenable situation. Running low on ammo and having constant Zombie aggro. To give you an idea of the situation by this time over 20 minutes had passed. Everyone was running low on ammunition and side-arm ammo had mostly been used to deal with the Zombie menace. Decided to retreat westwards with 1 remaining in the barn.

3 of the enemy converged on 2 of us on the Western Hill by the Green Tower leading to a short and brutal confrontation with neither side quite prepared for the meeting. The 2 of us died and the 3 of them died.

The final enemy who broke out through the south entrance could have survived but he double backed to the west to try and help his comrades in the battle for the Green Tower. He became trapped in the open by the sniper fire of one of our 3 remaining and was eventually taken out.

FINAL COUNT (estimates):

# 10 dead humans (6 & 4)

# 50-70 zombies dead

# 150-200 rounds shot

Yep, I wish I was there. On a sidenote, zelenogorsk seems to be the place to be for groups on lootruns lately. My group got into a similar fight there (4 of us v 5 enemy in total for around 30 minutes) just the other day.

My hat is off to both sides for playing it fair.
