Friendly list.

As much as it pains me to say this, I think we NEED to have an option to add someone to a 'friendly list' in game which involves, while two players are facing one another, using the action menu to select an option of "add to friendlies list" which, for the game period alone, helps to identify another player with blue text when you move your rifle's sight/cursor over them. It's sort of a face to face handshake if you will.

I know, you may be thinking "well that's as unrealistic as hell" but let's really think about it. In real life, if you were to recognize a person's body shape, face, hair, clothes, or hell, maybe even ass as they stand less than 30 feet from you, you would know from memory who they are. This also has a lot to do with voice. Since not everyone answers direct chat immediately, and not everyone has a mic, it would eliminate some of the issues with that problem.

With the low-res and similar body types everyone has, this can be incredibly difficult to discern, even at close ranges, whether or not someone is familiar or not. This *may* eliminate some of the 'shoot on sight' necessities in the game, it will eliminate mistaking someone for an unknown character early, and it could also provide challenges if a player you thought of as friendly decides to stab you in the back.

Any input on this idea would be greatly appreciated.

I like this idea. When I think I see my friend I take a long time to check if it's actually him or not. IRL I would be able to identify immediately.

I like this and it does have a nice dynamic addition to gameplay feel to it in that it would be easier for players to identify themselves as friendly, maybe more a toggle for players to use to id themselves as such. Granted bandits would use but on first 'murder' it would flag the opposite as maybe 'aggressive' (moreso than 'killer' or 'bandit' at least initially just to avoid tagging someone who accidentally shot a group member trying to peg a zed for example). Over time the 'aggressive' option could modify up (more survivor kills) or down back to 'neutral' then eventually back to friendly.

Hard to find a way I think to code that in but it could help somewhat certainly with things like easier ways to tell if someone 'looks' trustworthy.

Looking at it from a realism standpoint you can often (if you're perceptive enough) easily identify people to 'steer clear of' so it makes sense that a game mechanic could take over since in the game we pretty much all look the same.

im 100% for this IRL nearly nobody looks exact like the same person everything wich allows to differ knowen and unknowen players will help

I can dig it, Can't tell you the amount of time my buddy and i have spent crouching and rolling just to see who it was. I would go as far as to add a declare friendly command as well that announces your position to everyone within a certain distance say half a block.

Yea variations of this have been suggested numerous times. It's a good idea I think. Completely compensates for the fact that you can't recognize your buddy from a stranger b/c of skin/resolution limitations.
