myskaal 50 Posted July 6, 2012 So I think everyone who loves DayZ for the way it's intended can agree that server hopping to farm loot or safely reposition and disconnecting to cheat death are two of the most abhorrent exploits that are currently "the thing to do". Especially the DCing to avoid death - and while some may argue server hopping to farm is not an exploit I assure it is. You are meant to survive in the environment as it is... not find a different environment that suits your laziness "because it's just a game" better. So with talk of a standalone DayZ milling, I wonder what multiplayer model is being considered. If the current ArmA2 type of multiplayer (Co-op on servers hosted by others, not by BI) is what will be used, I'm not sure if this idea could be applied - but I'm also not a technological whiz.I would like to suggest and encourage Rocket and BI to consider a more MMO based server hosting model. That is, the servers are BI's servers that they control. You know, like, when you log on to play WoW, you log on to Blizzard's servers. Why?If this were the case, DayZ could be set up like this:1 server for your character. You pick a server. You play on that server. Just like in SWTOR you pick a server, and then make your characters there. You can make characters on other servers - but they are not the same characters as you made on other servers. They do not share items or progress in any way shape or form. This way, you can not simply DC and hop onto another server to escape your current conditions. You can DC and make another fresh character with nothing of the stuff you had on the original server. As for the "But I've survived for 14 days and I decided I just don't like this server?" - offer server transfers. I wouldn't suggest charging for them, what with Permadeath looming around every corner, but indeed make it somewhat time consuming. Perhaps 24 hours minimum to go into effect so players can not simply DC and then hit the transfer button.Just an idea to consider.eta* I picked WoW and SWTOR as examples because of their recognizability not because I want to see DayZ turned into anything similar. Just fyi.
smithy0815 6 Posted July 6, 2012 but with only 50 slots and 400000 unique players what you do when the server is permanently full or empty? Think before suggest stupid things.for this problem you need other solutions.maybe loot what i got is saved after i played at least 20 min on the server, after 20 mins it get saved at it is now. (in my eyes this would solve the problem)
myskaal 50 Posted July 6, 2012 Well, I'm talking about the future DayZ here. The standalone product, that I imagine is going to be hugely more fleshed out than the current Alpha mod version of it.Rocket has made statements along the line of support for around 200 concurrent players on a server. Obviously, if there was some way to apply this sort of character hosting per server with the way multi player is currently done (hosted by others) that would be best. I just have no idea if anything like that is possible. The thing is, I don't see DayZ as being the same kind of game ArmA is. It's not exactly war. It's Apocolyptic survival. Yes it involves co-op but not at all in the same way as ArmA.The best part of the mod is the dynamics with other players. Single player is right out.DayZ seems to me to lean more to the MMO side of things than co-op.
smithy0815 6 Posted July 6, 2012 Thats not on dayz, its arma. I know the engine since 10+ years, and a new arma is on the way too, so live with servers up to maybe 150 +/- 50 ppl but thats it.
myskaal 50 Posted July 6, 2012 I know it's on ArmA. I know ArmA 3 is on the way. I know they are also working on DayZ witht he ArmA 3 engine most likely as a standalone product (as devs have said). Thus the suggestion.
