A few things to retroactively focus on?

Recommended Posts

Hi there, I'm going to try and keep this quick - I just have some thoughts to put out to the lovely devs, who are doing amazing work on DayZ and really doing the world a favor.

TL;DR maybe we could focus on bringing back some features from way back before the engine change that have been sort of left behind?

Super-veteran of the standalone game here, been with you all since 2013-14. The game has had tons of ups and downs and I'm so proud of where it's ended up recently. Breaking its previous records and being more stable and playable every month or two, it's really a delight.

I just wanted to point out a couple examples of things that I feel like need to be shown some love before they're left in the dust forever. I'm sorry if many of these are repetitive, I'm no trying to be, I just wanted to suggest some things to change that are already in the game rather than adding new things and changing the whole movement system and stuff.

So, here are the things I really think the whole community would love to see, both veteran players and new ones:

- Those weapons that were vaulted with the change of engine: we miss them so much and it's been soooo long since they got taken away. I know they're planned, okay, so I totally get it, and making something like the bow & arrows work well in a different engine is surely hard, so maybe those can  wait a while if needed, but why not try and just bring back things like the trumpet, PM73 RAK, red 9, and some of the great melee weapons that provided so much nice variety to early-game play? They're all in the planned section along with ambitious things like the RPG and stuff, but I'm thinking just adding some of those back in could (and I know I'm not a developer so I'm sorry if I'm mistaken) be really quite easy and most of them could just go in even with their somewhat old model. It'd be so nice to see those assets that people worked hard on come back into use, and I know the community would be happy with the addition of any vaulted item from the past. I miss them and my nostalgia would explode.

- A couple mechanics that have been sort of forgotten, like the Gorka/Assault helmet visor not doing anything at all for protection. Just some things that people who are new have no idea about but that used to matter in-game and could be tweaked to make then make some sense 'realistically'. And things that feel sort of like they could definitely make a comeback from the grave like the speedloader for the magnum and snaploader for the Blaze/shotgun, and good old spraypaint. Spraypaint to change the color of ghillie suits and armor/weapons was so cool, and it's a shame that it has sort of been abandoned. Also, leaving things like ammo in fireplaces and it popping off was pretty cool, but that's not major and I know we have gas canisters/grenades exploding when ruined like that.

Anyway, I guess that's kind of all I wanted to talk about, just some things that I miss that I wish we could have back/changed before moving forward with other things. I'm still happy with where the game is, and really proud to have been a fan for so long.

Love you guys, keep up the good work.

- A long-time survivor

Agreed. I think they should also make shooting more difficult because at the moment its too easy. Holding your breathe is 100% accurate at any stance, making prone shooting almost useless
