Boat help

so we have found a bust up boat, (it looks shot to hell) but its engine is good, one problem. its flooting in the middle of the water, how do i get a jerry can to it?

Find another boat, push it to the shore and hope none of them blow up in the process?

Shoot it up and hope it respawns?

Pretty much. Even if you swam there without losing the jerry can, I don't think you can do the fueling animation inside the water, nor inside the boat.
