Low framerate in MP but great framerate in SP

Recommended Posts

Title says it all, Why does the game chug so slow on multiplayer but when i run the game in single player, i can gain up to 60 frames?

The game dips to the low 20's and mid 10's mostly during daytime.

My rig uses

AMD Phenom II 920 2.8Ghz

GTX 550ti stock

4GB ddr2 400mhz

I don't play on high settings with these but i use Low settings, sometimes normal. Since terrain detail and view distance are set in the server, i can't adjust those leaving me with the object detail to play with.

I also split the workload of ArmA onto 2 hdds.

single player - all required data is local, no servers or bandwidth to contend with... therefore single player will be quicker regardless

Like any online game, if the server gets hammered, performance is going to be affected

Also depends on your bandwidth as well

This. Your CPU has to process every packet, so it's going to be a bit more intense during MP. Doesn't help that you have a shit ton of AI and players on the server.
