I can max arma 2, this one 30 or less fps, what the hell?

Recommended Posts

I'm aware this is a mod, i'm aware this is in alpha stages. But I didn't expect an Arma 2 mod to run far worse then the infamous arma 2 engine..

I tried out arma2+operation arrowhead I can max all specs, fps is usually around 60 or 50fps, never below.

I just started day z, my fps started at 50, then everytime I enter a small village or a small town, BOOM 30 fps.... or sometimes 28fps...

28 FPS?!?!?

I really like this game, but the immersion is completly blown every god damn time the fps takes a gigantic hit, not to mention it's hard to aim when it lags.

My computer isn't a monster gaming rig, but come on.... if I can max arma 2.....

Yes i've tried to lower settings, yes i'm running the same resolution+3d resolution.

Relevant specs:

Nvidia Geforce 560 TI

CPU AMD Phenom2 X4 965 3,4GHz (4Ghz OC)

Corsair 4GB DDR3 1600MHz/CL9/VENGEANCE

EDIT: I should have been a bit more clear on arma 2, I run the setting at max but with no aa, also this is singleplayer, NOT multiplayer.

When I get home I will try the multiplayer portion and report back

Day z settings normal:

Texture detail: Normal

Terrain detail: Normal

Post process effects: Disabled

Video Memory: Normal

Objects detail: Normal

Anisotropic filtering: disabled

Shadow detail: disabled/Very high makes no diff

Antialiasing: disabled

HDR quality: Normal

Mines doing the same thing I have a Geo force GT630 i can run everything on very high and be fine but i run it on normal to be safe, but when im running around I will freeze and everything around me does so if im running from zeds, I'll freeze for about 5 secs then the zeds appear beside me and beat the shit out of me.

are you playing arma 2 multiplayer or single player because that will make a difference.

Try playing multiplayer and see if your FPS are comparable.

So you get 30 fps on max settings?

Lower your settings. Here are mine, I get a steady 60fps with an old gtx 470 on these, and the game still looks nice (though in cities, the textures are a bit blurry, but you keep the constant 60fps):

Texture detail: Normal

Terrain detail: Normal

Post process effects: Disabled

Video Memory: Normal

Objects detail: Normal

Anisotropic filtering: Normal

Shadow detail: Very high

Antialiasing: x5

HDR quality: Normal

Really ?

60 fps on max settings with a 560ti ?

Like absolute max with max AA and everything?

Perhapse 60fps in best possible scenario in single player, but there is no way in hell that you get 60fps on max settings in multiplayer when the fighting starts.

I've tried high/normal fps wise I don't see a huge difference. Right now i'm running normal like yourself just to be sure i've done everything I can in my power. That freeze thing, isn't that server lag?

STFU spoiled rich beach. I run sometimes at 8fps in cherno' date=' not 28.

LOl!

Yeah singleplayer only' date=' i'm gonna try arma 2 mp when I get home, evaluate the fps

Thanks but i'm already running on normal, except a few the settings i've turned off completly. I hate the way nvidia brands their names, one would assume higher = better.

Your gpu 470 is that better or worse then mine? Because 60fps sounds impossible for me. Well to be frank, I do get around 50ish when i'm in a forest, but everytime I enter a town/village the fps takes a gigantic hit.

Here are my settings:

Texture detail: Normal

Terrain detail: Normal

Post process effects: Disabled

Video Memory: Normal

Anisotropic filtering: disabled

Sorry no, I'm using no aa otherwise my fps would become unplayble for me, everything else is on max, but this is singleplayer only.

I'm gonna try multiplayer arma 2 when I get home.

Thanks for your input guys, i'll update my thread when I've tried the mp portion of arma 2 to see if it's similar to day z in terms of performance (arrowhead included).

Setting Arma to normal will use your CPU, setting it to high or above uses your GPU... :)

Turn off AA and PP or set it them to low and the Mem to default and all the rest to high or above.

Heres a fun fact if you have an older GTX 460/470 they are amazingly good for what they are/were. They are actually better then a 560 or a 560ti.

I'm running everything on normal except shadow detail. After updating my drivers manually I haven't had any major problems unless I'm in a big city. I do have to close SixLauncher after getting into a game though. If I leave it on I get big drops in performance.

I do have problems if I die after a long life. I have to restart if I want my game to run smooth as I can't figure out how to flush my memory. (shift + numpad - doesn't seem to do anything)

Don't go chasing FPS in ARMA 2, it will drive you mad. If you get 30 FPS in Cherno & Multiplayer you are good to go.
