New player - Game (Not) IMPOSSIBLE

Recommended Posts

Hah, just kidding. I read a lot of threads with players complaining about everything, nighttime is too dark, guns are hard to find, keep getting killed etc.

Well, before I first played I watched a fair few youtube videos, read these forums and the wikipedia and this game isn't anywhere near as hard as I've heard. Granted within the first hour I had to youtube how to bandage a wound in day z, but hey, I'm new to ArmA and Day z, now, one day later I consider myself to be quite adapted to this game.

I've gone to the airfields, managed to grab a DMR for myself, killed two players with that, one because he was going to die from the zombie eating him alive anyway, and two because it was self defence.

I don't plan on using the sniper to sit on a hill at elektro and kill unarmed players, whats the fun in that? may as well kill zombies.

Anyway, I now have a tent in a hidden location filled with the weapons I've been collecting, winchesters, sidearms, cz550 and an M16. So weapons truely aren't hard too find.

Heres a tip, find a town/few buildings with a building that has two exits, long barns are the best. Crouch run through this area, try grab what you need, if zombies attack, run through the barn, lose them, continue grabbing anything else. Move on and repeat elsewhere.

Night time is mean't to be dark, however its still possible to see relatively well at times, if not, use your damn flashlight.

I have died about four or five times so far, first time because of being trapped in a building by zombies hehe, next two times were from players (eh, shouldn't have been in elektro/Cherno) the next two times were because of broken legs/low blood, you have to accept you'll die, don't go crawling from town to town looking for morphine because your legs are broken, this is a game, mean't to be fun not a chore. die and try again.

The only areas I'm struggling with atm are trying to fix vehicles, I found an ATV and all systems appear to be good to go, I refueled it but it doesn't move. Any ideas?

Anyway, point of this thread was just to share my experience so far, and hopefully help some players that are struggling.

If anyone has anything else to add, feel free!

I personally love playing at night time. The games much more intense.

Its not that hard. Some of the bugs make things a bit frustrating but that's life in DayZ. Starting over can be bit daunting and breaking your leg again and again sucks pretty bad but the weird stuff that happens and killing bandits make up for it all.

Just the other day a zombie broke my leg. As I'm sitting there thinking about respawning a big truck rolls up. A guy hops out and instead of killing me or helping me he decides to loot my bag. I had nothing for him but while he's trying to steal my noob gear I loot HIS pack and get morphine and a grenade.

I toss the grenade and blow their truck up while blowing out my ear drums. I laughed pretty hard as I healed my leg and rode off on a bike.

Game owns. Love it.

He he today a guy shot me and as i lay dead my character glitched, as the bandit opened and rummaged through my stuff i opened his pack and took his blood bags, morphine and epi pens we must of spent 60 seconds trading gear back and forth before he realized something was wrong and started to move away. My character stood up then and just disappeared then the outside door of the grocery opened and I found myself in the login screen. I was laughing my butt of because I had most his supplies at that time.

Probably a good idea to at least read the first line' date=' the one that says "Just kidding" or you kinda look a bit of a dickhead with your tl;dr post. If reading is far too taxing for you and sarcasm makes your head hurt then maybe this coloring website is more your thing. [url']http://www.coloring-book.info/coloring/ All you need is a printer, some crayons and some adult supervision to make sure you don't herp derp and try eating the crayons or stuff them up your nose or whatever.

Anyway, trolls aside, back to the thread. Esoteric is right, this game might be tough, maybe even a little brutal at times. But it's not really that difficult if you do a tiny bit of research here on these forums or watch a few youtube videos of the numerous let's plays there then you'll be more than prepared for this game. I watched a load of videos from some guy called DevilDogGamer and another one called SideStrafe and they really did help. If more new players did the same, or at least read a bit on the boards first before whining then there would be a lot less threads for jerks like Janeral to not bother reading while posting tl;dr in.

Lol'd irl Mordred, I can only imagine him thinking 'wow this guy has alotta morphine! wait..'

@Woodland Creature

I too have watched a few of DevilDogGamer's videos, I really like part 24 :D

Just an update, not long after making this thread, I logged back onto my server and managed a 300m headshot on a ghillie suited sniper with my first shot, although he didn't die straight away, so I fired again then a few zombies stared to run at me, while losing the zombies I noticed my murders go up, quickly ran over and managed some good loot including NVG's!

I then found a crashed heli site, M107, M14 AIM and another DMR. I took the M14 AIM and the DMR mags, I put the M14 AIM in my tent and noticed it didn't actually go in, I heard about this happening when the tent is full, although I couldn't find it on the ground, bit disappointed.

ArmA 2 is a simple game...Once you gained the skill that it requires to successfully play it without dieing all the time. I just hope that all the people that bought ArmA 2 because of Dayz get a taste of the many other things that really brought ArmA 2 to the loved game it is today. Not saying Dayz is screwing with the community...It's just not giving many people the incentive to go and try something else. Type in anything in Filter for ArmA 2 and you will find nothing but Dayz.
