mind_grenade 24 Posted July 6, 2012 (watch in >720 or it looks like ass)I got one recently and thought "so why so rare?"This is why. The distance is 1400m. Good luck hitting that with a DMR or an M24. Even if you wangle a hit with those at this range it's not a kill (except the head, of course)
I_Guts_I 7 Posted July 6, 2012 ... show us a video of you making shots in training. Come on guy.
mind_grenade 24 Posted July 6, 2012 The reason I showed it in a training mod was so you could see the bullet speed and range clearly. In retrospect I should have added a clip I the DMR or M24 to show how ineffective they are comparatively. You see people bragging about DMR's when an M107/AS50 would clean them up at range ;)
Mordred (DayZ) 0 Posted July 6, 2012 Used one once at the airfield tower, about 70 zombies later I was down to my last mag of suppressed ammo when they finally quit climbing the ladder, on the ground you would need at least a squad backing you up.
Combine (DayZ) 247 Posted July 6, 2012 I checked wikipedia to compare the two. If ARMA keeps it similar, and I guess it does, then the M107 would be even better than the AS50.But still, the AS50 is good enough for most engagements, and so far I found several in my whole dayZ career.HOWEVER, do not underestimate the DMR (or maybe even M24, didn't have that yet in DZ). Ammo CAN be even more common (or is, actually). Not just source-wise, but also clip-wise. And it still does serious damage up to a certain distance, maybe a third (30%) of the maximum AS50 range, but that's still good for many scenarios you may encounter. Also, it is way smaller (thus not giving you away by, I don't know, that GIANT FREAKING TURRET ON YOUR BACK/IN YOUR HANDS? :P), and due to the zoom you can engage even in close distance. needhelp 1 Posted July 6, 2012 DayZ doesn't even render persons on 1400 meters...As far as i know it only renders up to about 1 km. But i discovered lately that it is pretty foggy even on sunny days, not to even mention rain when vision range can drop to about 500 meters.Congrats on your gun that can hit on 1,4 km.We need more BRAINS! suspense 210 Posted July 6, 2012 The operational range of the as50 is 300 meters less then that of the barret. The as50 is also designed as an anti-material rifle, to shoot out engine blocks or light vehicles. Overall a worse "anti personal" rifle then the barret
magneticspoondevice@gmail.com 0 Posted July 6, 2012 That doesn't seem to hold up to how it plays in DayZ. It has more range than the M107 (1600m zeroing over 1200m, I believe), appears to be slightly more accurate, has less recoil, does not have quite as loud and distinct a sound making it somewhat harder to detect where you're being sniped from, and is every bit as effective at killing vehicles and players alike as the M107. Maybe not realistic to how things should be in real life, but that's the score in DayZ, the AS50 is superior to the M107 in most ways. The only area I can really think of that the M107 might be better in as far as gameplay goes is that it has a variable zoom that goes slightly further than the AS50's two levels of magnification.
