Mac versions?

Recommended Posts

Hello there one and all!

My question is, with the update to the Enfusion game engine, will Mac version of Arma/Dayz ever be made?

Currently I mainly play Dayz on my main PC but would be nice to play Dayz while out and about (I've got a Macbook Pro)

Is this some kind of joke? They didn’t make a version of the game for Linux, and you are asking for MacOS,

which has recently begun to be developed for a completely different architecture, so Wine will help you.

Em no, I am not joking. Only asking a question. As for Linux, I know they haven't made for that OS but could do then port it to macOS as Bohemia clam the game engine is "cross platform'.

True, Macs have changed architecture from x86_64 to ARM. However, compiling for different architectures (with some code tweaking) can be done.

Also, Wine won't be able to help. The game will run as normal (apart from battle eye) but joining servers is impossible as they require battle eye.

BattlEye runs in Wine, if it didn't work I wouldn't be able to play on the official servers from my Linux PC.

And how many cross-platform games do you know by Bohemia? ARMA 3 updated only for Windows, for example.

Yes, it is possible to add compilation of code on a different architecture, but it's not so easy. Now look at how long DayZ has been in early access and look at the current problems of the game, then just think about who will be doing all this. Again, there are very few Mac users, and given all its flaws in software development, it is not very profitable to make games for this OS. Do you want to play games? Buy devices on Windows.

"Again, there are very few Mac users, and given all its flaws in software development, it is not very profitable to make games for this OS. Do you want to play games? Buy devices on Windows." I do have a Windows PC, as I stated at the start. I find it funny that you are saying that while playing Dayz on a Linux system.

"BattlEye runs in Wine, if it didn't work I wouldn't be able to play on the official servers from my Linux PC." Which build of Wine? 7.0? Any winetricks used? Did you have to run Dayz though Windows Steam?

Unlike you, I don't whine that I need a native client for a different OS than Windows.

ProtonGE with Wine Staging 7.2 + Proton BattlEye Runtime. I don't use Windows.

Bruh... chill out. All he asked was for a Mac version of the game, why are you so aggressive?

To answer to the OP, you shouldn't expect a native Mac version of the game.

Where did I show aggression? Statement of the fact that Mac users are much lower than Windows users

and therefore this is already a weighty reason not to release games for this OS has become aggression for some time?

Seems a bit aggressive to me.
He never whined, he just asked a normal question. "Will a game X be made for a platform Y?"

That's fair nuff,. I know as a dev myself how hard it can be to port things over from one OS to another (Different API's and such).

That's exactly what you just thought and it's not really. And yes, such a request really looks like a joke, because developers need to bring the game to mind for at least one OS in order to rush to develop it for other OSes. It's logic, not aggression.
