Curiosity killed the cat?

Hello, I was walkin to the airfield with two friends for the first time yesterday and we decided to come from the back through the woods. As we walk through the wood we suddenly hear explosions and can see small bits of white fog when we start to die one by one.

We had no clue what killed us, any ideas? We first thaught it where mines, thats why we stopped moving but then we all died. Nobody of us could see anything between the the trees.. so what killed us?

frag grenade by someone who was pretty close by, and you didn't see. Lag was probably the reason why there was a delay between explosion and all of you dying.

There where like 5 explosions.. but I guess thats still realistic?

Can you shoot like 5 grenades with the grenade launcher within 20 sec?
