Auto stack items when picking up

Hi all, I play on console and I think it would be definitely beneficial to auto stack items such as ammo, planks and sticks etc. Without having to combine stacks all the time. Splitting is still useful when needed to split tinder but generally isn't used. I think the stackable meds is a great feature perhaps this could be auto stacked as well?

Whilst on the subject would it be possible to store identical items adjacent to each other within a container?
