I would prefer to be able to map my own controls.  Please include the ability to tap, double tap, hold, and combine (hold + other button) for the commands to all available game actions.

IF THIS IS NOT A REALISTIC REQUEST (please try), the one controller input to change for PS4 is the zoom feature.  I have no experience with the XBoxOne.  Instead of double tap L1, re-map to click R3. Ergo, FPP to TPP and back would be double tap L1.  This would make running around, free-looking, and zooming easier and intuitive.  The player could hold L1 to free look and click R3 to zoom in and out instead of having to release L1, which re-centers the screen, then double tapping L1, and holding L1 again for free-look.  The current input method is ineffective and could be simpler. This mimics ADS mechanic on console.
