How to measure distances in DayZ

Recommended Posts

Besides using a Rangefinder, how do players measure distance from them to other players while using scoped weapons in DayZ?

Thank you for the help.

Try to find out where on the map you are (in what grid) and then find out where that other player is located, in what grid he/she is. Then, count how many grids there is between you and the other player.

If I remember correctly, one small grid (when zoomed in on the map) is 100m. The larger grids, when zoomed out, is 1km.

Here's a quick reference for using a scope with Mil-Dots.

If the target you are aiming at takes up a number of mildots in your cross-hairs... the range is the following and use page up and page down to zero accordingly:

5 mildots - 360 meters away

4.5 mildots - 400 meters away

4 mildots - 450m

3.5 mildots - 514m

3 mildots - 600m

2.5 mildots - 720m

2 mildots - 900m

1.8 mildots 1km

Alternatively you can work it out on your own using the following formula:

Height of item in meters x 1000/Mils read = Distance to item in yards (meters)

Characters in ARMA are generally 1.8m tall, standing.

I hope this helps :D

What if you have an L8 like I do? I guess that would be harder, since the scope doesn't has any mil dots.

Thank you for the info though, I'll keep it in mind next time I get a sniper with a scope with the dots.

Sometimes (not sure if bug or intented), you can scroll your mouse wheel so the menu appears, then put your cursor over a person/building/object, and it simply displays the distance to the object in the middle of your HUD...

The Enfield's iron sights that be zeroed to a distance like more modern rifles can. Fortunately, the rifle has a powerful punch, and has an effective range of up to 500m. Beyond that, trial, error and guestimation are your best tools at working out the bullet trajectory.

You do not need to know the range to target when using this rifle. If the bullet falls short or flies over - you adjust accordingly.
