Heartbeat doesn't necessarily mean bandit?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Not sure if this was a bug or not, so thought I'd post here first before submitting it if it was.

Walked into an apartment building, announcing myself as I went in (I find the footsteps announce you anyway, so may as well give people a heads up--I'm not a bandit, so feel less guilty shooting them in the face if they stay quiet). Got halfway up the stairs to a dude with an AK-74 facing the other way. Aiming at him, the heartbeat went crazy, so opened up on his back and he died.

Problem is I got a murder instead of a bandit kill. His dead body still made the heartbeat going crazy sound (though not AS crazy as I've heard before).

So can the heartbeat sound when someone isn't classified as a bandit? I was under the impression it only happens when looking at someone with negative humanity.

You keep your heartbeat once you get it even if you die, but not the bandit status.

I'm starting to think you only get bandit kills in self-defence.

I've killed people who had just murdered others and got a murder. The only time I got a bandit kill was after I got shot, returned fire, and killed the guy.

If either of those is the case, there's no point in having a humanity system whatsoever.

With the first, it means the "I'M A BANDIT" sign stays with you even though you're not a bandit at all, meaning people who are trying to stop banditry are going to become bandits themselves (I guess somewhat poetic? But flawed).

I'm not sure about the second one--one of my friends stalked and killed two bandits (who we saw mow down a survivor), and got 2 bandit kills for it. It was a good 10-15 minutes after they'd shot the poor guy, and they hadn't shot anything since. But if it is the case, it's just as retarded.

Surely it should be heartbeat=bandit, or no heartbeat at all.

You get bandit status after you kill 3-6 people, haven't been able to figure out the exact number. Despite what people say there aren't that many bandits around. Most people may shoot on sight, but they die after 1-2 kills. I've gotten over 100 player kills and I recall only about 10 of them being bandits.

With all this buggy shit they need to reset humanity, or at least give us the choice to reset it. Lost a ton of humanity due to self defence, might aswell just Alt + F4 to avoid losing humanity.

So if it's to do with them not having bandit 'status' (even though under the old skin system, anything under 2000 was bandit, you had 2500 to start and one kill would usually put it into the negative), when does the heartbeat start?

I'm not TOO fussed about my humanity dropping, as we are only testers after all and any really serious playing should really be left for something more stable like a beta. It still is just annoying though.
