Base building, pointless? And...

Recommended Posts

So base building on dayz is well in my opinion, straight up horrible. The whole mechanic and style of building is well, absolutely terrible. Why are the walls so weak. On ps4 I literally broke down someones wall with just 2 hatchets and a splitting axe. It took me 3 and half mins. And that's without repairing any of those 3 tools I used. Now they were only wood planks but still even the sheet metal isnt very strong.

So you guys have to be coming up with something better. I mean more diversity in building/ base pieces and can you please give the walls or "fences" more hp. They are just so weak. Oh and this one shouldn't be to hard. But is there any possibility of when I build some where and I cut down a tree, say one that is inside my walls. Can that tree please not respawn and for real only 1 log per tree when I cut it down no matter the size of the tree? I think you can do better then 1 log per tree.

Oh and cutting down a tree, the animation for real is that the best you could come up with. Like I've never seen a tree get uprooted from being hit with an axe. So please can you fix that. And more logs per tree when cut Down would be awesome.

And last but not least can you please do something about the durability of the tools. Like I understand the reason for durability but I can only cut down 3 trees before I have to stop and repair my axe. And how come I can repair my axe or hatchet with duck tape but I cant repair a hammer or shovel with duct tape. It makes no sense.  For real though all in all you have a great game with tons of potential. But you really gotta fix the lag spike issues while driving. But that's a topic for another day.

Thanks for taking the time to read this have a nice day

I think the base building understanding in this game is just an additonal add on in fact this game still is (as created under Arma II) a close combat Simulator and not a Survival game, with a small focus on surviving the nature and the situation (in Special on the PS4 all this influences seem to have been made softer then in the Pc version like rain, bakteria, etc) and so the game has more high focus to survive a Meeting with a Player then to survive the nature. So base buildinmg is a plus but doese´nt mean a base will ever be able to be protected completly against Intruders.

So in short, making a base strong is only usefull to Longer the time the attacker needs, to make it in. This is similar to any real world intruder detection logic which means an intruder detection System tries to shorten the time the intruder has until the help is there to stopp him. I think that meets somehow also the bases in the game. So Building a base means for me, ensure it is at a place seltem Players walk to, gives you much more protection then the best planned base with metal contrcution and so on. I even would avoid using tents if no net is avaiable as a wall around them doesent protect them but a net making them hard to see, does protect them, if you know what I mean.

But I agree, there is room for improvement.

So our base is 0 protected  but undetetected since 3 weeks. This works well. There will be a day it is raided for sure. But hey, there possibly will be a wipe too and who cares?

We just build it up new then and start looting from scratch again.

Personally, all if the points mentioned here aren't vital parts if gameplay. Resources shouldn't be spent fixing insignificant aspects like log amounts and animations.

Base building can be a fun hobby but holds no true value at this point. Even the mods on PC (epoch for example), did base building quite well. Yet it added very little to the core aspects of the game. Like survival and player interaction. Instead it gave loot hoarders a place to collect loot and in turn ruin server performance etc. That's why at its core Dayz is not a base building game. Make a stash as best you can and use that.

Maybe one day you can do a walking dead style base camp but thats starting to become a different game entirely in NY opinion.
