Custom UI elements

Hi all, I'm posting this to see if anyone else has attempted to add any custom ui elements to their server (ex. kill counter, stat viewer). It seems pretty straight forward after looking at everything but the only problem I am seeing is that all of the image files are .edds file types and I cant seem to find any info on how to make or open them. I haven't tested anything yet and won't have the ability to until later today so I don't know if pngs or jpegs work but I was just wondering if anyone had tried it or has any knowledge of how to manipulate that file type or if we can use other image file types. Thanks!
