Dudg 0 Posted July 4, 2012 There's always lots of PvP shitfest and shoot-on-sight complaint threads... so this is just a "I think Dayz is starting to actually work" threads, inspired by my little adventure yesterday. So I have come and gone to Days with different builds, but I finally feel like it's getting somewhere good and workable. Both stability/bug-wise and playstyle/content-wise.So here's a story for those that like them...Spawned in yesterday, new life after my last rage quit a few patches ago...Electro... bugger, well at least it's not Cherno...But I fancy my chances today, so I go creeping about a town, looking for goodies... my first finds are a toolbox and a hatchet, which I frown at disappointingly. But both come in handy only minutes later... No survivors spotted yet, but I agged some zeds. So I test the new AI and manage to lose all but one of the greedy fuckers (sweet!), who I test my new hatchet on and successfully open up his infected face (sweeter!). I then seek out the church only to find it swamped in barbed wire... ah! the toolbox! entry gained... but it's all ammo and no shooters. I load up and move on... next on my tour about town is the medical centre, currently untouched unbelievably. So smashy smashy and I'm in. Get the goodies. But my inventory is full now, so on to the market in hope of a bag... I sound calm at this point, but my heart was going and my pits were dripping...Some successful sneakage later and I finally have a double barrel shotty, a 1911, chech pack, watch, knife, food and pop. Now I feel vulnerable, and it's now that my first encounter happens...A survivor runs in as I'm in the back room sorting gear. His direct voice coms is open and he runs in, sees me, and starts running about in a panic screaming "he's got a gun! he's got a gun!.. run for your lives..!". What could have turned ugly, turned into an amusing Monty Python moment. I chuckle over coms and move out quick, I'm set for the wilderness and need to get outa Dodge. So I head up to one of the ruined forts, nabbing some more grub on the way. The fort is quiet, only 1 zed.. that's too quiet. I make it into the main tower and up to the middle floor. I swap the shotty for an enfield and prepare to move out... when I hear shots. My heart starts pumping at that Dayz pace..."friendly?" I type over direct. No response. I stay put up the stairs, watching. And sure enough along comes Sneaky-Joe-Survivor. He sees me and stops half way up the stairs."friendly!?" I type again. I have him in my sights through the little gab twix stairs and floor. I know his bead on me can't be good. Again, no answer. "friendly!?" I say firmly over direct coms. Still no answer. But, he does lean left and right quickly. Now, I've seen many ways to try and indicate friendly status... salute, weapon lowered, typed/chatted message, leaning, getting up/lying down repeatedly... so I gave him a few more secs. But the method he finally chose was to pull the trigger. His shot hit the stairs... My centre mass reply did not. I must have hit his heart, or he must have been injured, cos he dropped instantly like a sack of shit. For a moment I flushed cold with guilt and pride... The sweat dripped. I loot and bury him quick, filling out my enfield and 1911 mags nicely, plus I get a free meal, perhaps the most valuable find nowadays... then there's more shots."fuck me, is there a fort tour today?" I think to myself... heart going again."friendly?" I type... but this time:"yes, don't go shooting on us" comes the reply. 'us', fuck I could be in trouble here I think."I won't if you won't" I respond."We're moving out". Experience tells me not to trust that they are going to go.By now, over the course of my day I had picked up a few knocks and scrapes and was down to about 7k blood. I thought, perhaps against my better judgement, I might ask them to bloodbag me and I'd pay them with another bloodbag for their trouble... But I didn't want to push my luck, so I let them leave. Despite my distrust, they seemed to be gone... A few mins later I moved out myself. My trust level rose a little... sometime soon I'll find someone I can ask for a transfusion, I'm sure of it.So there I was, back in the game for a few hours, after a few weeks of absence and I felt great. I'd laughed, I'd shat myself a bit (zed noises always get me going), I murdered in self defence a bit... but most importantly, I'd met friendlies a bit. I had all the tools and supplies I needed to feel comfortable and ready for another adventure, yet also felt incredibly vulnerable as a result... Now I know I didn't hit up Stary, or Cherno, or NW Airfield. And maybe my experience would have been ragier if I had... But isn't that kinda the point to Dayz? Use your bonce to survive? avoid the known danger areas, but do take some necessary and calculated risks?Rocket, sir, I think Dayz is getting there. The features are coming to balance and people are starting to settle into the life a bit. Not everyone is a bell-end. But their are some, as in life, so you never quite know... perfect.my rather long and pointless 2cDudg
Jorden 63 Posted July 4, 2012 Read the whole damn thing. Good read. Yeah this is pretty close to my playstyle honestly, I like to find new/old players and just chat for a bit, then part ways. Not everyone wants to group up, and I respect that.

JustThatEpic 72 Posted July 4, 2012 Nice. I usually don't get as lucky when I travel into Elektro. I usually run into a horde of zombies, or I make myself a target to snipers. Good job getting in and out of there without much trouble though.
