petition: For Side Chat to be Optional

Recommended Posts

I understand rocket has said he does not want to have Side - Chat, but again I don't think you have thought this process through.

Pro's and Con's

Pro's

Admins can talk to the player base and make sure everything is ok and when some people may need some extra time before a restart they can say so in game.

New players can ask questions and be helped by some people.

Players can actually talk to each other with out having to give out skype or other private details that they may not want to.

People can have some nice banter with eachother for fun allowing a bit of interaction in the game.

It allows people to see how active the server is.

Con's

Abuse - meh can be handled

Spam - can be handled

I see no other reason to remove this from mission files. So please people respond with a +1 or -1 and a reason if you wish.

Another way:

Players have access to an admin channel

only logged in admins can see what's typed there.

admins can broadcast.

another:

/admin message

any messages sent to admin using that, admins defined in BEC or other methods.

Sidechat Should stay disabled, and there are cleaner methods of contacting admins.

I prefer my users to be able to contact me on our forum, or to send a pm on here, I don't spend all day playing on my server so the other methods would be quite useless to me.

Yeah /Wisper sort of command would be nice towards admins, but how do we help new players and what is your reason to disable Sidechat ?

Dayz is an "anti-game", i don't tend to the "hardcore survivor elite" market, want to make that clear.

I feel that with side chat disabled it really does make you feel alone, lost, dependant on no one else for your survival.

Sidechat was just a glorified pit for trolls and baiters (some of them masters(you'll get the joke eventually)) and, yes it did add a community feeling, but i feel friendship/trust gained through taking chances in an encounter so much more rewarding than pre-arranged meet ups through side chat.

The "PVP problem" was evident before the channels were disabled and will NOT be addressed with the reintroduction of side chat, what will help is incentives to group up (be that minor, or virtually non existent) and better/bigger "end game" content.

I digress, Sidechat when the mod was in it's embryonic infancy, was a boon to new players when the community was small, respectful and willing to play the game in a community fashion.

With increased popularity, we've been flooded with pre-teen mindset, shoot on sight, lolololol, my little bronie individuals who have made it their sole mission to "grief" which is fine, it's part of the game. removal of sidechat limited their interaction and ability to ambush those who were being "communal".

Now you have to work to gain trust, take chances with a stranger, or just shoot them. It's the feeling of the mod rocket was aiming for since day 0. I think this is the closest a game has come to illicit such raw emotional impacts - ever.

I love it, and those are just my opinions :)
