Game wont run in full screen mode, works in windowed

I built a new PC about a month ago, Installed Windows 10 64-bit. PC is an Intel i7 with a Radeon R9 290X video card, 16 GB ram.

I installed Steam and DayZ SA as my first game and ever since then im having an issue where DayZ is showing garbage on the screen in full screen. none of the screen is recognizable, its acting like the resolution is way off but I did the fixes suggested in the CFG file, etc.

In windowed mode the game looks fine. My 27" LCD is capable of 1440p @ 120 hz.

I've uninstalled/reinstalled DayZ, verified the integrity of the game cache. etc. nothing works.

I also got a message "DayZ.exe application error    The instruction at 0x00000000000DD4278 referenced memory at 0x000000000000003C. The memory could not be read."

I get this every once in a while when i try to switch to full screen. All my other games work fine including Arma III. I've run a system memory test, all working fine.
