Can't connect to DayZ servers - Battleye error

My friend has been having an issue for at least a year now where his DayZ won't work. At first, his game wouldn't load at all as Battleye would fail to initialize. After reinstalling and verifying the game cache, eventually the game would load. However, now he receives another Battleye error where he connects to a server, it says "waiting for host", and then he's kicked with the following error - (Battleye; game restart required).

Restarting the game doesn't seem to do anything. Also, installing the files from the Battleye website leads to an issue where he gets kicked with no error message at all. He's already tried verifying the game cache and reinstalling the game. Windows firewall is off.
