tent protection?

I am waiting for the bugs to be gone from .60. In the meantime I decided to put up a tent in the middle of the military tents at NWAF to see if it would protect me from the infected. Aside from the fact that the KOS crowd would almost certainly ruin this endevoir  it was still something I wanted to try. I set the tent up near the existing in-game pup tents by the medical huts. Then I hunted around for infected and spotted a few. I fired a shot and then ran and hid in my tent. It worked. Two or three infected scratched through the outside of the tent but that had no effect on me and I was able to sneak out and shoot them. Then the server rese. I logged back on and went prowling again. I found more military type infected and attracted them by a gunshot. This time my tent was overwhelmed and they seemed to hit from all sides before actually coming in the tent front. My weapon loading seemed glitched. I couldn't seem to find the magazines with bullets---panic maybe---and I was soon bleeding profusely and then unconscious. I awoke and scrambled to one of the sandbagged outposts only to pass out again---and then die.

Conclusion---tents aren't real protection in the game or in real life.
