How Often Do Tents Destroy Gear?

For those experienced with tents and storing gear in them... How often do they delete your gear?

I've got a good life going, gathered up a bunch of decent gear, NVGs, AS50 and a tent. I'm wanting to dump my NVGs and AS50 in the tent at a good spot and go farm some more but from what I read they will often delete your gear as of 1.7.1.5. If this is the case I'd rather contact a clan mate and see if they have a safe place.

My wife and I have placed three well-hidden tents since the update, and all have been empty upon returning the next day in >30 player servers. Though they could have been found, no single person could have carried everything that was in the tent themselves, so I'm inclined to believe newly-placed tents have a fair chance to delete gear in them. Though, in all fairness, that opinion is based off of purely anecdotal evidence.

I placed a tent in a good hiding spot. Everything had disappeared the next day, possibly because I died before the first server restart happened, maybe the tents owned has to be alive until the next restart for the tent to actually save.

I have been thinking about testing tents with some trash items first and see if they still are there the next day I check and thus see if the tent works.

Here's the trick to tents.

Put 1 or 2 items in it till a server save. If those items are there after the server save then your tent will never delete items ever again. The tent has to make ONE server save with items saving properly and it will save every other item after.

The trick is set up your tent, put a crappy item in it and wait to see if it saves, if it doesn't keep trying until after a server reset all your items still in it. Then it will properly save forever.

Cool, this is pretty much what I ended up doing. I set the tent up at a remote location no one should ever find, dumped some food in there and will return after a restart to see if my beans are still there. Luckily I have a good clan who can evac the AS50/M249 SAW I've been carrying to their vehicles.
