Crowbar is flares?

I tried this now 20 times and never get a useable weapon. Once i found a crowbar O joy, I look on the forum it says hit reload "r" Nothing whatsoever happens regarding the crowbar, but I start throwing flares..

Obviously I was "delighted" that I was immediately mobbed by Zs ... I escape throwing flares, flares flares...

I also found a hatchet. Did do ef all, besides chopping useless wood at that stage. I tried to load it as a weapon. Nothing.

Then some guy dies in front of me with a shotgun. Flies are buzzing, but the body is nowhere to be seen.

I also see no point in having no weapon in the beginning. Why would I want to team up with anybody that would just draw more Zombies. (this was mentioned as a reason to give you no weapons in the beginning in a WTF video).

Can we noobs please get a weapon in the beginning until the weapons you find actually work.. :)

Find an AKM, no ammo. Find ammo no weapon. Find a crowbar doesn't work, find a hatchet, doesn't work. Thirsty doesn't seem to do anything near a well. Axes, don't work. I am in the military hospital and there are 7 Aks and I can't pick none up..

Totally cool making it hard, but if the weapons don't work it;s pointless sneaking for 20 minutes and then run into a bug.

Please give noobs a weapon until the worst is ironed out. And yes the crowbar was in the primary weapons slot..

Same issue w/ the hatchet as i've had. I've gotten it to work by adding it to the toolbelt then removing it (putting it back as primary). It can then be reloaded.

rightclick the hatchet > add to toolbet > remove from toolbet > reload

the military hospital you went to sounds like the one south of the southern airstrip. Yeah, those weapon racks aren't intractable.

But I couldn't move the hatchet. It was in the belt.

I don't know about the crowbar - pretty sure you can't do anything with it. The hatchet, however, can be reloaded and used with the method i described above. You might have had the crowbar in the primary or something when trying to move the hatchet

You need to press 'F'. If you have flares, they will equip. Then when you have the hatchet or crowbar you need to press F after it is out of your toolbet so that you can cycle to it. Look in the top right corner while pressing F to make sure you are cycling to the hatchet / crowbar.

no, these were two different characters. With the hatchet I had no primary

The top right corner was empty the whole time. I was desperately looking for a sign of life from the crowbar .. I looked.

New players DON'T need a weapon. I'm fairly new and I enjoyed starting without one.

Please learn the game before you start whining. Once YOU learn it, it will become easier, no need to fuck the game up for everyone else because a new player is having problems. I figured all (well most) out on my own, I guess I am lucky because I saw a video saying you needed to reload the hatchet but that's about it, everything else is completely down to you.

Press F, cycle through your available inventory.

Better check with scrolling middle mouse, select hatchet, press R to reload, have a swing BEFORE you get into combat to find out if it works.
