Tent Mechanic Question...

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if this is an Exploit, bug, or proper game mechanic. But is it true that only the original person who looted a tent can ever pack that tent up and move it?

If so.. then what is stopping any player who already has a tent from finding another tent, instantly setting it up and thus preventing another player from moving/placing that tent?

The purpose of this is to seemingly 'lock' the tent to the looting player, even if they have no intention of using it until some later time (for example, after their 'other' tent is somehow destroyed?).

This question came up because I found 5 tents sitting outside the supermarket in a town last night.. all empty.. and I thought, who in their right mind would place a tent in clear view.. unless their intention is to simply prevent other players from placing/moving the tent for their own purposes?

Thoughts?

Bump cos I'm hoping for some clarification :)

The person who "sets up" the original tent has the option to pack it up, not necessarily who found it. Upon death, the person loses that ability.

If the person decides to "pack up" their tent, then it can transferred to another player by simply picking it up, and the cycle continues.

1.7.1.5 Tents/Wire/Traps are bugged, in that if they are removed (packed up/destroyed) they will reappear after a server restart.

As to your question...

Any player who picks up a tent and sets one up, in an attempt to prevent another person from taking it, essentially is allowing a higher probability of a tent spawning at the loot location.

People do that for loot cycling - they put all the markets loot in the tent and wait for new loot to spawn. Either that, or they're keeping it setup as they didn't have inventory space. Risky incase they die in the meantime though
