Suggestion: Weapon perks

Recommended Posts

Ok, now before anyone says this is like going to make it like CoD, blah blah blah just read until the end of the post and you might see what I'm at.

Ok, so back to the topic.

I was thinking when I was looting weapons, that why are all the weapons in pristine condition? They can't have been just bought brand new and then just left there. So I have an idea to change the way weapons work (kind of).

So, when I say weapon perks, what I mean is that some weapons have different conditions. So for instance one pistol found in a, lets say, barn will have a "rusty" perk. So what will this perk do you ask? Well use your imagination, rusty, well it would be slower and have a chance to jam up wouldn't it? And now lets say that a weapon you found in a heli crash site would have a "Spec. Ops." perk, silenced, increased rate of fire and a scope. Now not all weapons will have these perks, so some will be just normal.

Implementing this into the loot spawning and weapons code might be hard, so maybe only to be implemented in the beta stage of this mod.

Here is a small list of perks:

Rusty - Slower rate of fire and has a change to jam.

Damaged - Like Rusty but about about X5 worse

Quick action - Faster rate of fire.

Trustworthy - Less likely to jam.

Accurate - More accurate.

Military - Trustworthy X10.

Slow - Slower rate of fire.

Quiet - Makes less noise when firing.

Anti-Zombie - Quieter, more accurate, less bullet travel time (Maybe ammo dependent?).

(I will expand this list as people give me suggestions)

OK, now your thinking that all the weapons are going to be screwed because in barns they'll all be rusty or damaged and all barracks will have really over-powered guns. Well all perks will have different spawning chances and all loot spots will have a chance to spawn high grade perks but at a really reduced rate (about only .075% of the normal rate).

I hope the guns will have perk chance of about 1 perk to every 7.5 guns you find.

If anyone has good ideas/changes to my balancing please tell me and I might change the OP (I will credit you).

Thanks for reading, Happy hunting!

I definitely think weapons should have varying conditions, like you said (rusty, damaged, etc). I would also like to see different types of ammunition, such as hollow point, FMJ, incendiary, tracer.

No' date=' this is not Call of Duty.

I think you meant something like borderlands but you were too busy parroting the most popular nonsense to realise.

Ok I see some people see this as a CoD style of suggestion, I want to point out that no CoD game has this and I don't see how this is related to CoD, If you can tell me why this is adds CoD features please tell me. And also I think that I missused the word "perk", what I really mean is "condition" so the only CoD reference is the word "perk".

yeah gimme one of those "anti zombie" weapons with higher velocity, so my sight zeroing can be way off.

Could someone tell me what would make a weapon "slow," are you suggesting a super weak recoil spring or an inexplicably heavier bolt or what

People are jumping on the anti-CoD bandwagon because the OP mentioned it in the first few words of his opening sentence, which is about all that 90% of people read anyway. But yes, this is an idea that's more akin to Diablo's looting system (which is what Borderlands also uses) than to anything CoD has ever done.

That said... I don't hate the idea.... but it should be a hidden value. You just find "A gun", and maybe this one jams more, then you find another and notice that your shots aren't on target as much. No way to know if you have a decent weapon except when you use it and it does something different.

I want forges all over the place so we can improve our rusty pistol into Anti-Zombie plasmagun and then use arcane enchanters to add 20% to sneaking and +10% to find military loot

Eh... I can see why you think it's a good idea but please, it's really just over the top... Perhaps you can find a gun that doesn't work well and it jams a lot... but that's it... none of that stuff that makes the gun better. :S

Ok, thanks WhiteTigerShiro, would you like me to mention the "Hidden" aspect to the OP?

well he has a point with rusty, damaged and stuff like that - i mean thats why you always clean that shit in the armed forces ? so we could add like cleaning kits and repairing kits for weapons.

i dont think we need hollow point bullets and stuff like that right now

+1 (for the the damaged/old guns + kits)

I was planning to add cleaning kits into the op to somehow fix rusty/damaged guns but I thought there was a topic there already.

This is actually not like COD, the work 'perk' however, is. You should have said modifier, as that is something which is used in many RPG games I.e) stalker, mount and blade etc. not a bad idea on the whole but using that word did not help your case haha
