Mic and PTT issues

I have an issue where anytime I use the PTT button, it either mutes the sound to the game or crashes the game.  If the sound gets muted, the only way to get it back is to exit the game entirely and reboot it, I have reassigned the button but the problem still occurs.  I have only been playing a few days, but ptt has not worked at all during that time.  On a side note, if i attempt to swap servers or get dc'ed, I also lose sound and have to exit the game completely and reboot to get it back.  Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

OK after playing around with some things, I have found that if I make the regular speakers the default instead of the headphone speakers and leave the mic enabled, the sound does not go away when i push the PTT and I have not had it crash yet, altho the game kinda hung a couple of times when i did it, it was able to catch back up and run after a few seconds.  Any ideas? My wife would rather not hear all the birds chirping and me clopping around while using the regular speakers.  Also the switching server thing doesnt mess the sound up anymore either with it set up this way.
