omgwtfbbq (DayZ) 1069 Posted July 3, 2012 so after playing dayz for the first time, i had a blast, i met up with someone, they died dramatically, and it was awesome. i even found a lee enfield after about five minutes since starting. lots of ammo, too. so, as i continued my fantastic adventure, i found two soda cans, but no beans. passed a pig, and a couple chickens, but didn't have a hunting knife. an hour and a half later of wandering around, i still couldn't find any food. it didn't help that 90% of the buildings are unenterable. quickly, finding food became my priority. so i went through about six towns, and nothing. not even water or ammo. i found one flare in one of the towns, though. so, having no idea where to go or where i was, because i didn't have a map, i just kept following the roads, which led to more towns. eventually, i got hit. killed the zombie, used bandages, cool. then i met that guy, and he somehow attracted about 15 zombies. so after running like hell, i got hit again. and then i realized, that i hadn't found any bandages either, i only had the one i spawned with. eventually, i died in a forest from bleeding out and starving to death at the exact same time. WHERE IS ALL THE FOOD OR AT LEAST A MAP OR SOMETHING
jasoonti@hotmail.com 0 Posted July 3, 2012 Maps are often found in grocery stores, food isnt all that uncommon either, sounds like u just got quite unlucky.
Dagoth Wit 21 Posted July 3, 2012 Try this map. It shows you where you'll find loot and what the buildings look like.http://dayzdb.com/map#5.095.
deren93@hotmail.com 95 Posted July 3, 2012 http://dayzdb.com/mapThat should help you. Don't worry, the game is designed to be difficult - you will get the hang of it soon enough.
SystemiK 366 Posted July 3, 2012 an hour and a half later of wandering around' date=' i still couldn't find any food. it didn't help that 90% of the buildings are unenterable. [/quote']Sounds like you had a pretty great introduction to the game, it gets better as you learn the map and loot drops etc, trust me.Why is it though, that so many people seem to think that if all the buildings in the game were enterable that we would more easily find loot? The loot spawns are a delicate mechanic which is currently tuned to create scarcity. If all the buildings had interiors, we would STILL have the same amount of loot we have now.A lot of people seem to overlook this.
omgwtfbbq (DayZ) 1069 Posted July 3, 2012 ok, thanks everyone! this is a very nice forum, it seems. anyway, from the looks of this map and some of the signs i saw on the way, i started a little north of berezino, then went west through khelm, went southwest to dubrovka, and went almost to gvozdno, but then i died in the forest on the way. i should have stayed on the coast to find cherno or elektro, or at least something on the outskirts of those cities. If all the buildings had interiors, we would STILL have the same amount of loot we have now.true, but at least if we could go into buildings, the zombies would be slowed, or at least corralled into a stream, leading to a higher chance of survivability. or at least, we could have a place to hide for the night, or something. the buildings wouldn't have to have supplies in them, but i would at least have some hope of finding it, or at least some hope that i can survive the horde following me. SystemiK 366 Posted July 3, 2012 Anytime you spawn on the northeast coast, consider yourself very lucky. I'm certain you will have plenty of chances to spawn near Cherno or Electro...
sixbarns 217 Posted July 3, 2012 I just lasted an hour on my most recent character. Before I had even found a gun I had 3 cans of food and 2 sodas. Kill zombies. Depending on what kind they are, they will have food. I've noticed the zombies in coveralls are pretty much useless but regular town folk looking zombies can have food, drinks, and bandages on them. Just hit them with your hatchet once. Zombies don't aggro other zombies, that I can tell, so pull them one at a time and steal their lunch.
