blobface 0 Posted July 2, 2012 While this has been briefly brought up after a quick search with the 12 gauge madness, I'd like to see the game with the ability to separate magazines from ammunition (potentially difficult with ARMA's inventory system, but ACE has given us a glimpse that maybe it could be possible with the organising magazine options), but essentially, if I have a bolt action rifle that takes 7.62, there is no reason why I can't take 10 rounds off a 200 round m240 box magazine (in reality), and get rid of the steel clips to use the ammo.It would bring an interesting new dynamic, where loose ammunition can be found lying about with no magazines, so that even if I'm lucky enough to have the right gun, I'd have to fire one shot at a time by inserting rounds directly into the chamber. If I have ammo as well as magazines, after I've ran out, I'd have to find a safe spot to reload my magazines, making it important to have multiple magazines as well as just ammunition. Perhaps we could even have speed loaders as one of the findable tools in the world that speeds up the magazine reload process. With this, people would have more options to work together, it'd allow people to share ammunition across different platforms, while also increasing incentives for others to pk, since a 9mm from his m9 works just as nicely as it would for my mp5, and even someone with an empty guns and lots of empty magazine could be very valuable to someone with lots of ammo but no magazines, and vice versa.I can appreciate the technical difficulties of this implementation, but having seen films such as The Road... it seems like it would be really appropriate, thanks!Blobface
Peninja 0 Posted July 2, 2012 They already have something like this. You can use revolver ammo ad M1911 ammo and vice-versa, but an expansion of the system would be awesome.
ZombieGrin 3 Posted July 2, 2012 http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=17556 Ammo crate idea I posted in a design document. Might want to read over it and see what you think

Might want to read over it and see what you thinkThe ammo crate idea sounds like the right direction, potentially a technical workaround, what I have in mind though is that ammunition are separate entities, so that you could find 3 9mm with 2 .223 in a drawer, and magazines would be separate objects too.. so you'd have to right click to reload magazines one round at a time, you could load it full, or you could load only 3 rounds if that's all time's allowed you for.. would also be great for things such as 12 gauge shotguns with tube magazines, where I can stack my gun with buck shots, but load the occasional slug to take someone out who's far away before going back to a tube full of bucks. Clips remain after all ammunition is expended from them and it is up to you to find ammo from other clips or ammo boxes to reload your clips. Read the design documents I have written they are pretty detailed over this concept
