Thank you good sir for your eloquent and classy question. Alpha can only be said to end when Rocket feels the game is feature complete and free of some of the more radical bugs; it isn't a specific date or time, it is simply a stage of completeness we will reach at some point. When that happens, we will be in Beta, testing for bugs and helping iron out final mechanic tweaks.
