I must have missed something...How do I make a fire?

Fairly simple. I looked at the newbie guides, and I couldn't find out how to do this. I don't know where to gather the supplies to build a fire, or even what those supplies are.

I found matches the other day and every time i tried to light i fire it said there needs to be no objects in the way i tried every area possible but still no but maybe it is fixed now i will never know until i get more matched :L

It's strange like that and only works when it wants to on flat areas.

To be specific, flat areas with short grass. The fire will be placed at your feet.

In most residential areas etc: GeneralStore, Pub, Office building, tenement block & Church..

First church I went in to I immediately found a box of matches, having spent a solid day searching houses and shops, etc.

I found some in a general store - dont have a hunting knife this life though :(
