Massive fog ruining the gameplay

Recommended Posts

What happened in this last patch? I've played the mod actively for half a year and the weather has been absolutely fine until this point. I can't recall any similiar constant fog weather in the old days either. I don't mind occasional fog for shorter periods, dynamic weather is cool and I like light rain in particular, but right now for a pvp player this is game breaking. We no longer spot people (or zombies) from distance and the type of fights you get is only close quarter at most (it's difficult to find people now). I appreciate all the work that is being put in for development, some nice changes to come as well, I just think extreme fog 95% of the time is hurting the gameplay to the point where I probably won't play anymore something is tweaked.

The fog system has been in maybe a year or so now.

Earlier I have manually decreased the fog on Europa,

Now I haven't done that since we are running vanilla. Is there a chance for you guys to take such a suggestion into consideration? These are players that come to me and complain about the fog because they play the game, a lot. Instead of me decreasing the fog in the code I have asked the players to give you the feedback.

Cheers.

Whilst it's very true that fog has been in the mod for some time now, as VJ above as said, he, and other administrators I am sure, have previously adjusted the values to suit them / their communities in the past. So many players haven't experienced constant fog at the levels they are currently seeing in build 1.8.5. My opinion is that weather is an integral part of Dayz, and fog is weather, I like a full and varied weather system, however currently in build 1.8.5 I have experienced fog, usually dense, reducing visibility to 300m the majority of the time, and giving a maximum visibility of around 800m, but the fog is always there. The only variation we get now, is rain / thunderstorms, never sunshine in my experience.

TLDR; I feel that fog needs to be in the game, however the volume of fog, and the ammount of time weather in-game is "foggy" is too great, and could do with being reduced, to allow for more variation.

I personally like the fog.  Many parts of Chernarus is a sniper's wet dream and makes a lot of the assault rifles limited in their usefulness.  Fogs brings back more engagements within 300 meters and lessens the OPness of sniper rifles.

Don't get me wrong Geryon, I really like it aswell it's just alot of it often.

Other than that I kinda fancy haze..

DYNAMIC WEATHER!  I love, love, love heavy fog, but I also love sniping and seeing the beautiful vistas Chernarus has to offer.  The more it varies the better.  Some days foggy, some rainy, some clear blue skies.  Vary by day or by every couple of hours, or a hybrid of both, with some days being overall more foggy/rainy but while changing how thick the fog and rain are during that day.  I know dynamic weather is already in the game to a certain extent (love that some nights are cold, some are warm, sometimes rain, sometimes not, sometimes full moon is still super dark b/c of clouds, etc) but the more variety the better.

+1 for dense fog. I like DayZ as a simulation of (possible) reality and dense fog is part of that. In the real world fog has even brought plenty of BLUE on BLUE situations or panic fire as an enemy turned out to be where you just walked past 20meters ago!

Dense fog is fine, time to time... right now it's fog 24/7 and that's not "real world"  ;)

Geryon, I was playing on 434 last night and there were periods of extremely intense fog, sometimes lasting 20 minutes sometimes 5. It was awesome! I've never seen it before, when the fog is so dense you can barely see a few blocks in Elektro, and it's getting dark on top of that. Not sure if that's the server or just a rarer Dayz environment, but every time it came back the side chat exploded with people cheering for the fog's return. Bullet catcher was there, I know because he answered when I asked where to post my positive feedback on the fog!

Yes the fog last night was unusual.  The server's weather dynamics are pure vanilla so you happened to experience a rare occurrence.  I'm glad the experience was positive for you.  :-)

Yeah I was on 434 on Sunday and the fog rolled in and it was THICK!  Like, can't see 20m in front of you thick.  It was fantastic, and side chat erupted in joy.  People were getting lost, zombies were aggroing out of the mist at us, it was insane.  It would be great to see this intermittently as well as clear beautiful sniper friendly weather.  =)
