Requirements for new player

Recommended Posts

Morning all,

Spotted this mod on IGN today and have been hoping for something similar for some time so want to give it a try and browsing the forums does make it seem pretty well structured and challenging which is a bonus!

Just wondering what I need to get in place to set it up?

Arma 2 is free to play yes? I keep seeing comments about it costing but also that its free scattered around so Im not sure.

And this mod direct from here I assume.

Is it all nice and easy to set up and is there anything I need to keep an eye on when installing? Have had numerous problems getting mods running in the past hence I thought I would ask first and cry later this time :)

cheers Merkin

There is a free version of Arma 2 but then you'd have low res textures.

Buying Arma 2: Combined Operations will suffice. The player models will have a low res texture, but the rest will be fine. This is because the player model is from the PMC DLC. If you want everything high res you'd need the Arma 2 Anniversary Edition.

To keep Arma and DayZ updated, download SixUpdater. There are several tutorials for installing DayZ.

Good luck, it's not THAT hard ;)

Hi Merkin,

To play the game you are required to have ArmA 2 & Arma 2 : Operation Arrowhead (making up combined operations), it is possible to use the arma 2 free version to run the mod but is a more complicated installation process so it is advisable to use the full retail version of the game.

Currently ArmA 2:CO is available on steam for £25 or off the Bohemia Interactive website for £15 as they have a sale on. It's well worth the money, not just for DayZ but also the base game and the array of other mods available.

Here is a guide for actually installing the mod, the easiest way is through a program known as six launcher although it can be done manually relatively easily. If you need any other help feel free to PM
