NEW PLAYER GUIDE v 1.0.2 Updated with Dethrone this video...Clan suggestions/classifications,clarification edits, community stories,...

I. FAST AND EASY THE GENERAL SOLO GAMEPLAY PATH.....

These first 6 steps are a Quick start guide for players who want to read quickly and get right into the game. I suggest reading sections 2 and 5 for clarity on what you need for survival....I go into detail on game mechanics in the sections that follow it, incuding offering links to loot maps and the references that inspired the presented theories.....

1. You spawn....run to a major coast city or an airport whichever is closer to you search any loot spawns you encounter on the way as residential spawns drop the rare matchbooks...Airports have rare spawn weapons and items in the hangers and the main tower...cities have match books, larger backpacks, maps, axes hunting knives, handguns rifles ect check all the lootable houses sheds and outhouses you find the fire station has rare loot the industrial areas have barbwire and toolkits and the houses with wells and pumps can refill canteens.....

2. Before you leave a major city you should have a bigger pack, an hatchet a handgun a rifle a hunting knife and a box of matches at the very least....avoid other players like the plague...low crawl or crouch walk past zombies never shoot them in a city and get the gear you need then run for your life..... make sure you search the major cities hospital for 5 morphine and 5 painkillers and some spare bandages ....the boxes of supplies drop them infinitely if they are near empty take the items out from them or around them they will repop more medical loot....

3. If you don't have a canteen by now you can find them on the road in the smaller cities get multiple canteens not just one getting one is a mistake noobs make....if you have multiple canteens you can go longer without needing to risk your life finding water and refilling them and when you do see water you can refill them all to full and take a drink I usually roll with a minimum of 4 canteens thus allowing me to avoid needing to get water for entire play sessions....

4. Know how to conseve supplies....YOU NEVER EAT OR DRINK WHEN THE COLOR CHANGES only noobs do that...you are a survivalist you need food when your food or water flashes a deep red color...this indicates that within 15 minutes or so you will begin to bleed out till you die if you don't eat or drink...once your an ultra pro you can time it down to the second and take a swig of water or eat some food right before the timer ends thus conseving any food you have and spending hours of game time without needing food.....scrubs complain about food predominantly because they do not know this now you do...use that advantage....also every time you find a can of beans or soda immediately consume it keeping you at max hunger or thirst you will never carry beans or soda on you you max out your pack with meat steaks (see section V.) and your canteens only leaving room for other loot and ammo...

5. Now go hunt kill an animal take it's raw meat and cook it for infinite food to go with your infinite water....

6. Decide your playstyle ....go live in the woods or the debug forest only coming out to hunt meat and refill water ....or, go shoot people to steal their loot...or, go help others to survive and combat bandits....you are officially now not a noob and only your decisions, hackers, game bugs and bandits can kill you.....

I do most of this in the first hour of any game I died on with a week of practice you will too....go read the Day Z wiki memorize what buildings spawn what loot in cities and rural towns...profit...

II. ITEMIZATION THE D0'S AND DON'TS FOR SOLO PLAYERS...

Here are the only things you will ever NEED to pick up as a solo player...

1. a larger backpack - I suggest the 16,20 or 24 sloters

2. box of matches

3. hatchet

4. hunting knife

5. handgun- any calibur is ok but 45 prefered as 45 rounds can be converted for revolver or cartriges from the menu

6. rifle- (starter lee enfield).....anything you get past that should hold the most rounds possible to limit the ammount of ammo clips you need to carry and be ranged....shotguns are useless never pick them up except untill you can get a rifle they have no range and in a sniper situation your a deadman....

http://dayzwiki.com/....php?title=Loot

7. canteen- for infinite water 4 prefered less ok...

http://dayzwiki.com/...p?title=Canteen

8. cooked meat steaks- for infinite food as many as you can carry after 3-4 main weapon ammo clips, 8 bandages 5 morhine and 5 painkillers and your canteens are in your inventory ....

9. morphine- 5

http://dayzwiki.com/...e_Auto_Injector

10. painkillers- 5

http://dayzwiki.com/...tle=Painkillers

11. bandages- 8 fewer if your using your handgun alot which I don't suggest.

http://dayzwiki.com/...p?title=Bandage

As a solo player these 11 items and the appropriate ammo are the only things you will ever need to carry consistently....

This is the final count in your non weapon inventory slots ... 1 morphine in main menu 1 painkiller in main menu 3-4 main weapon mags in main menu 4 canteens the rest of the slots are meat steaks in main menu

The handgun menu has 4 bandages and 4 handgun clips or more clips if you need them minimal 2 bandages....

There are many packs in the game. You start with the Coyote Patrol Pack 8 slots, and can find larger and even a smaller pack depending on what your trying to accomplish. If your a sniper and your gears in your tent doning a Czech vest Pouch would help alot to lower your profile....but for the purposes of this guide I will assume you are a lone survivor with the bare essentials and describe the amount of extra blood you can carry in the 3 largest packs in the form of meat steaks....

The czech backpack has 16 slots, the alice backpack 20, and the coyote backpack 24 ...

http://dayzwiki.com/...?title=Backpack

Your items in these packs are the same regardless with just more room for meat in the larger ones...

4morphine, 4painkillers, 4bandages, the rest is cooked meat steaks ....

a czech backpack............6-7 800 blood cooked meat = 4800 - 5600 blood

the alce pack.......10-11 800 blood cooked meat = 8000 - 8800 blood

the coyote backpack....14-15 800 blood cooked meat = 11,200 - 12,000 blood

all of said blood is gained instantly on consumption.....

http://dayzwiki.com/...php?title=Blood

You can technically carry less emergency supplies and have even more instant blood available but the current ratio of gear is perfectly balanced and better for overal survival situations.....

http://dayzwiki.com/...=Status_Effects

III. ITEMS A SOLO PLAYER WILL NEVER CARRY......

1. roadflares....you are a single survivor calling attention to your location with a road flare is about the dumbest thing you could possibly do never pick these up...

2. chem lights...see number one....

3. heatpacks...they are absolutely useless....the only way you could get cold is...

a.) playing at night when it turns 32 instead of the common 42 degrees...that said you can at any time go into a forest drop 2 meat steaks, gather wood from a tree, light a fire pick up the meat steaks and sit and warm yourself...

b.) it starts raining....you can enter a building and you will regain your warmth automatically.... if you run in the rain use trees to break the rain fall and you will not lose temp as rapidly...also if you do stay in rain to long collect wood and start a fire indoors again...you will gain heat no use for heatpack taking space....

c.) go swimming for a long time...which is currently bugged...in deep water you will likely lose your pack and everything in it and if you do this for some stupid reason you deserved it....go heat yourself at a fire....dum dum

d.) wind... negligible loss

http://dayzwiki.com/...tle=Temperature

4. vehicle parts...you as a solo player have zero use for any vehicle drawing attention to yourself is the last thing you ever want to do...stay off of all vehcles bikes included you are just a snipers wet dream in a vehcle stay far from them they are for teams not you lone survivor...

5. anything else....nothing is needed for a lone survivor other then medical supplies and the food and drink items...you will only need to occassionally get pistol ammo cause it should be the only thing you use to shoot zombies, you should perdominetly stealth every town you enter...and your rifle ammo is saved for any bandits or snipers that target you at range....EPIPENS AND BLOODBAGS ARE FOR TEAM USE ONLY AND NEED ANOTHER TEAMMATE TO ADMINISTER THEM TO YOU NEVER WASTE INVENTORY SLOTS FOR THEM.....if you follow the above guide you are 100% self sufficient only a bad zombie pull or a random sniper headshot or hacker has any chance of killing you outright.....

IV. LUXURY ITEMS....

There are cosmetic items in the game such as the camo and ghillie suit that are super rare and offer a slight site advantage which is largely negated by your name popping up in your enemies crosshairs and also a recent patch 1.7.2 addition the bear trap, as well as a plethora of vehicles and parts to said vehicles that you can find on the wiki, but none of these is essential for survival although they may make life easier or more fun.......

The first 5 listed here are nice past that it is only needed if you want to build defences around your tent if you have a toolbox available, or in the case of the watch if you want to know what time it is on the server....

1.Tent http://dayzwiki.com/....php?title=Tent

2.Map http://dayzwiki.com/...x.php?title=Map

3.GPS http://dayzwiki.com/...x.php?title=GPS

4.Compass http://dayzwiki.com/...p?title=Compass

5.Toolbox http://dayzwiki.com/...p?title=Toolbox

6.Wire fencing kit http://dayzwiki.com/...ire_Fencing_Kit

7.Sandbags http://dayzwiki.com/...?title=Sandbags

8.Entrenching tool http://dayzwiki.com/...ntrenching_Tool

9.Watch http://dayzwiki.com/...php?title=Watch

10.Bear Trap http://dayzwiki.com/...title=Bear_Trap

V. HUNTING HOW TO AND ALTERNATIVE FOOD SOURCES....

1. Get the following 3 items from a multitude of spawns in the game....

hatchet http://dayzwiki.com/...p?title=Hatchet

hunting knife http://dayzwiki.com/...e=Hunting_Knife

box of matches http://dayzwiki.com/...=Box_of_Matches

2. Go to a cluster of trees in a forest open your menu and select harvest wood (wood takes 2 slots in your inventory)

3. Go find a wild animal cows are great when you kill them they drop 8 meat steaks raw....

http://dayzwiki.com/...tle=Cooked_Meat

4. After you kill the animal walk up and select gut animal....collect the raw meat...

5.Go to a safe area and select your matchbook in your inventory and select create fireplace.... then walk up to it and scroll mouse wheel select light fire ....then walk to it again and select cook meat...

6. All the raw meat in your main inventory will be cooked backpack meat will not be cooked you have to have it in your main inventory.

Comparing beans to cooked meat steaks a can of beans gives 200 blood a cooked meat steak give 800 blood and you can eat them one after the other and hunt down as many animals as you want. In fact once you have the 3 tools needed you should never ever have beans pasta or sardines in your inventory they are officially a waste of space you should stock up on meat steaks by hunting in safe pastures or hunt pigs in woods if too many bandits are about....

For further tips on where to get a box of matches which are the rarest of the three items follow the link to the official day Z wiki....

If for some reason you cannot get a box of matches and need food be aware of these two things.....

1. Supermarkets in game have a high rate of food spawn look in major cities for them and gather the food..

2. Zombies have a decent chance to drop beans and soda ....lure them out of the city so they cant spawn help then shoot them in the head out of sound aggro range and check their bodies for loot.... you can stay healthy like this too make sure first that you visit a hospital and grab morphine pain pills and bandages just in case you get swiped unluckily and break a leg...note that patch 1.7.2 decreased the leg break chance but it is still a danger...

http://dayzwiki.com/...p?title=Zombies

VI. SURVIVAL THEORY....

......Risk/Reward.......

This is the number one theory in the game it is the basis of every move you make in the game. Whatever move you decide upon should be based on this theory if your goal is to maximize your play time.

How do you enact this? I will give you a practical example...

You spawn....what is your first move?

I offered a general guide with basic principals but that is for beginers to have a basic answer to the question I just asked. If your an advanced player you need to think on the fly.

When you spawn you have the least to lose, you have nothing of value to anyone and if you die you lose nothing this is your best time in the game. Your most advantageous move is to gain the most deadly weapon available as fast as possible. If you spawn in the vacinity of the costal airstrip it should be your first stop...

Weaponless? Yes weaponless, what do you have to lose? If you die you respawn on the coast again you lost nothing if you get to a rare weapon first you gained everything.

A rare weapon would be nice but law of averages denotes you are more likely to get an ak or an assult rifle...if you are very lucky you can come upon dead players that just battled it out and end up collecting an almost complete kit ...that said you have zero to lose. Do not walk run full speed to the main weapon spawn in the controll tower.... search each hanger in the back left corners there will sometimes be unique pistol spawned....also check the hospital camp infront of the airstrip...

Your next risk reward decision is the value of your new weapon vs the chance of losing it to the noobs in the coastal towns...observe chat ask where people are dying and avoid that city...you want the opportuity to farm the most loot unhindered....try to always farm in a circular pattern looting the outside of the city inwards only moving further in if there are no gunshots suggesting a sniper or open conflict or possible zombie aggro that could be dumped on you....

These are the basic principals you will use the entire game....is what I have worth risking for a can of soda...9 out of 10 times the answer is no....your main game lasts only the first 1-3 hours that is when you make your most risky decisions because you have little if anything to lose...

After you aquire a box of matches, hatchet, and hunting knife I would reevaluate my risk....with those 3 items the matchbook being the rarest you can make food infinitely with the cooking mechanic....there is far more risk involved in staying in a major city at that point and losing that key trifecta of items then in going into the interior and finding your canteen but the need to carry a good quantity of medical supplies is also a factor.....is there a lot of gunfire? How many people are dying and where. Was it pistol or sniper fire? Scan the rooftops the treeline and stay in a safe position....

You can ask people who died where they think the shot came from pinpoint the danger and avoid it...

If the risk is too high take 3 morphine and 3 painkillers in your small pack and head inland...a larger pack and a few scattered medical supplies can be found along the way in residential areas...you can also take 6 morphine alternatively as painkillers are a far more common spawn inland then morphine...

These are the key decisions for hours 1-3 past that after you have a new pack and have balanced it according to the guide above you have very little chance of death through game mecanics...your risk is now shifted to personal error and pvp....

Since the risk is largely determined by your desired playstyle I will end the guide there and offer a few suggestions.

VII. SUGGESTIONS BASED ON INDIVIDUAL PLAYSTYLE...

It is very easy to be very successful in this game I find the most risky activity in this game ultimately is the players desire to have fun.

Once you can create infinite food and water anyone could easily live like a hermit in the woods but do you want to simply log on day after day hunting and refilling a canteen to gain leaderboard fame?....

If so, avoid all towns and cities, stay in a wooded area near water rarely traveled by people and you have basically beaten the game. Your only enemy are deadly terrain bugs, server glitches and server wide bombs from hackers so avoid any server plagued by hackers before attempting a leaderboard run and if you see many people dying in rapid succession for no apparent reason alt F 4 it is likely a server bomb also log out of severs before the day night cycle changes I have been killed several times by this change I believe it to be an unknown bug.

If you desire action that is when I would highly recommend considering joining a clan or a trustworthy group if your going to play as a bandit increasing your odds of success and joining a clan is the least risky proposition.

Alternatively you could decide you will be a solo bandit which is probably the most dangerous thing you can do in game.....currently each kill will cause people that slide their cross hairs on you to have an increased heart rate you are basically telling anyone that gets a bead on you that you can't see to shoot you on sight because you will kill them if you get the chance....the further you go into the interior the better loot but the more organized groups you find so farming the starter cities (or griefing depending on what camp your in) is probably the safest bet for a bandit, camping the coastal airport is also a good alternative.

The last option is being a helpful player or a medic....I heard Rocket discuss a player in an interview that has 2 body guards that travels from server to server offering medical aid....obviously playing nice... is about as risky in this game as being a solo bandit....if you don't care about your safety you can trust people...alternatively you would be much safer joining a clan and healing your trusted friends.....

The most important thing to remember when playing this game is you will die.....the best weapon you have will run dry....the ghillie suit will be lost....but your gonna have the time of your life getting it all back and learning from each and every mistake along the way.....good luck

VIII. CLAN SUGGESTIONS....

Many players new and old are eager to join others in an attempt to survive the horrors of the zed apocalypse...

In order to have a more centeralized location for that to happen I want to add a section in this guide where clans can be evaluated by the community and posted here for player convenience and listed based on their specific merrits/playstye.

If you are in a clan of 20 or more active players please post a note in the reply section that details what your clan is interested in finding in prospective recruits and links to your webpage or play sessions on youtube or twitch.tv. I will classify add or remove clans from the main post based on community feedback. However I do not want this to degenerate into a flame war so keep any negative commentary brief and to the point or your post will be refered to a moderator for deletion or action...

In the Clan section are a few Clans I found online browsing, I will add to the list as more are submited, I will rank them on the following values ...

High Production Values (HPV ) = a website or forums availabe to the public or they produce entertaining webisodes on youtube or twitch.tv

Legion (L) = 100 or more members

Youtube (Y) = a presence on youtube

Twitch.TV (TTV) = they stream gameplay on Twitch.TV

Server (S) = they run their own Day Z server

Professional (P) = they are sponsored or partake in national or international tounament scene, obviously this will be for other games atm but who knows what the future holds once Day Z launches in stand alone form

note the clans are listed in no particular order also if any of the previous qualifiers are unknown to me I will not include them next to the clan links, if they become available in the future, or if I left an appropriate tag off, notify me for edit...

(without quoting the entire initial post please)

CLANS

1. {SAS} Clan

HPV,L,S

http://www.thesasclan.co.uk/

2. New World Order / Synthetic Gaming

HPV,Y,T

nwogaming.com (note their site was down for maintenance when I attempted to view it but their youtube states they are recruiting)

Feel free to evaluate them and their recruitment process and offer feedback as well as promote your own clan in the comment section....be aware only actively recruiting clans will be posted in the main section as this is ment as a resource for players looking for others to enjoy the game with...( I might add a video of the week section after the next update for funny vids and machinima let me know what you think...)

IX. Dethrone this Video...

2 Videos enter one video leaves.....vote for the funniest in the poll and post your challenger for the funniest fan video in the comment section....

http://youtu.be/s8i-EG1P_fA

Continue to post your stories of survival and give me your beans ....lol...... I will edit this post continualy for clarity and as changes are made in the game in future patches.....

I would suggest any new players take this with a heavy pinch of salt. There are certain guidelines that following will give you an easier time but OP here has dictated an entire playstyle.

An interesting stratedgy. I cannot say that running into cities as abeginner is a good idea. I have spawned next to both Cherno and Elekrto multiple times and have scoured almost the whole city. i found one gun once and was instantly sniped upon taking it.

Also, you seem to rely on matches a whole lot but i have yet to find a book of matches. Yes, i have only been playing this for a few days, but your beginners guide seems to rely on a lot of luck in finding rare items...

I would actually go and try to find matches but the servers are STILL down and that is starting to get on my nerves.

So freshly spawned new players are advised to run into the nearest city? Only if you have a strong deathwish.

If you die after you just spawned what did you lose? Nothing....the reason you enter a city is to gather supplies in bulk. Death should not be a deterent when you first spawn follow the search pattern I outlined and you will find rare spawns. If you decide not to follow this outline go run inland without precious morphine and see how you fare.....I don't think you will last very long...

There is no LUCK involved I know exactly where matches spawn in the game I'm just not going to tell you....I have about a 90% rate of finding matches in major cities....they have a very specific spawn but I have no intention of telling everyone where it is so they farm it out.

I am giving you the path if you follow it, read the wiki and put in the work of exploring yourself you will figure out where they are....also note when you find them in that particular place they have a high rate of respawn there...

I have found 2 books in the same area while carrying them on me....also note rural house area's also spawn matches check the outhouses, doorways, sheds, ect. They seem unfindable early on but once you memorize spawn locations and house styles/structures with loot they will be found consistently.....

Matches are pretty common in medium/high residential buildings and supermarkets.

Why would that be a secret, it has been written here hundreds of times.

Or am i missing something? :D

Actually I gave them a set of easy to follow rules that they can choose to follow if they wish I offered alternate strategy if they want to play as a bandit, jungler or friendly and ultimately if your reading a guide you want to be told what to do because you have no clue what to do...

If people want to figure the game out for themselves they can go to the Day Z wiki and read it and reference the many loot maps online and come up with their own tactics...thats what I did. I am just sharing my personal experience and passing on my suggestions based on their success.

If your not a beginner why are you looking at this guide? I suggest you mind your own buisness....my strats are tested and they work if you think you got a better strat make your own guide but don't be a troll.....

i'd say as a new player, you should actually avoid coastal cities and airfields. you can get everything you need from small towns and villages - thus avoiding a lot of other players.

Well i found this very helpful as a newbie. Thanks for taking the time to write it.

Regarding avoiding cities at the start, i actually think the risk vs reward is worth it if you spawn near one.

I'm on my 1st decent run thanks to this risk.. i now have everything i need to survive and am running around the woods! i am struggling to find animals to eat.. but apart from that i've very well stocked mainly thanks to my city raid.

I found the small towns pretty hard to raid and often find f all. At least in the cities you have numerous large buildings to lose the zombies. Being an old time Arma player.. avoiding other players is not that hard if you are sensible & cautious.

that would be a huge mistake.....going to an airfield when you have a full kit means you can lose your full kit as they are heavily trafficked by bandits and other players...going when you have nothing means you can lose...nothing... at times players will see you with no weapon and just ignore you...either way even if you die you at least scouted it out and can then make a decision on where to go to next, based on what you found.

you have every advantage going into the most dangerous areas of the map early on and no reason to enter them if your playing strictly for survival after your fully loaded...as many barns, warehouses and deer stands drop the ammo for the rarer assult rifles you find there....

the biggest issue on an airstrip are snipers....it is nearly impossible if your playing alone to slowly stealth past the zombies without making yourself a huge sniper target...so early looting of the coastal airport if you spawn mid map is a big plus again spawn will determine whether you should go there or to a major city first...

You can do a mad Elektro/Cherno run in about 5 minutes and grab nearly everything you need then gtfo. Mainly hitting the hospitals for morhine, you will not have any fun without morphione in your bag. Most of the time you will not get shot. You only end up getting shot by being in either place too long or by crawling around super slowly.

I agree with the double barrell shottie..virtually useless.

Disagree with the flares , if it is coming on dark i always like to have a 10 pack of them to illuminate stuff or guide people to places or my whereabouts, sometimes just because i like pretty red lights.

Same with bloodpacks, i always carry two, one for me and one to donate to the friendly person who transfuses me.

Well done OP, I think you covered everything you need and them some.

New players, ignore people telling you to stay away from the popular spots at first, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Yeah you MIGHT die fast, but run north with no food/water/morphine and you WILL die slowly.

Yes city runs can be lighting fast but I factor in players not knowing where spawn points are and also lingering if there is little to no oposition....a main city run is what neted my my ghillie suit, if your not opposed sticking around and looting every spawn can get you very well geared quickly and many rare items....

In regards to my guide it is clearly designed more for a solo player then a group player. If you intend on playing with friends then bloodbags and epipens are nice although you can also check a persons pulse and wake them up by mouse wheeling over them instead of using an epipen if they were downed recently.

I tell solo players to avoid the items that as a solo player are not of any practical use.

Obviously if your in a group different rules apply. Ultimately though even in a group a meat steak of 800 blood that can instantly be eaten is worth more then a road flair or chem light hands down....although I like bright sparkly things too :D

Swimming in water and losing guns is not really considered a bug, in real life water can and possibly will jam your gun, then it's useless. if your pack gets wet in the water stuff can probally get ruined like a heatpack a blood bag etc.

New to the game.. had my 1st successful run due to this guide..

I spawned near Eleckto...by the gas station to the west.

Got a double barrelled shotgun, hatchet & camo suite at the train station..had a fight for my life around the fire-station & church..dumped the shotgun to hack a horde in the church. Had a good loot in the hospital, and an excellent loot in the market. Got a crossbow, matches, food, sodas, big backpack, hunting knife, etc. Everything i need except water bottles. There was sporadic shooting.. possibly a sniper..which i avoided. Nearly got killed by angry zeds, lost 2 of my 4 bolts and a lot of blood. Decided to raid the fire station to the north on the way out..where i found a dead survivor with a G17 and AK47 with lots of ammo, took his gear and got the hell out of dodge.

I'm heading north, eating wild boar. I got two water bottles from a small city with a market. I now have everything i need to survive, the only thing i'd like that i don't have are binoculars & compass. They would be helpful. Especially the binos.

As a newbie.. my 1st few tries avoiding the large towns was proving to be very difficult and fruitless... i strongly advise raiding the large towns early..dangerous but everything thing in this game is dangerous! :)

My little story:

Just started playing Dayz two days ago and still alive. Spawned near Elektro, sneaked my way to the church but there was barbed wire and I couldn't enter. Run to the fire house and found some dead guy with a decen't starter kit and a rifle. Grabbed all the stuff and run away from the city. Headed north which was kinda tricky without the compass, but I had the map and figured out where to go. Decided to go to the famous NW airstrip just for the heck of it. On my way found a crashed heli and zombies around it. Decided to check it out - DMR and ghille suit - score! Got to the airfield and slowly searched all the area - it took like 2 hours. Lots of good stuff (and another crashed heli with M24 and FN FAL) - but also couple of players, one of them tried shooting me but I got away, sneaked around and sniped that bastard. I was running low on food so decided to go to some village. Killed a pig on the way, made some steaks and currently sitting near Stary Sobor and trying to figure out what I want to do now.

I also have some advice for newbies:

- starting without the gun might seem very harsh, but very soon I've learned that most of the time you don't really want to shoot. Shooting one zed might attract 10 more of them and even bandits. Just learn how to sneak and be patient.

- when you start a new life grab everything you can at first. Empty bottles and tin cans can be thrown to lure zombies away from precious loot.

- smoke grenades are awesome. Thrown two of them on the airfield and they attracted ~20 zombies leaving me with the clear path to the buildings. They also attract players so be carefull.

Stay hidden and stay safe. Good luck to all the newbies out there.

It is very good idea to run to the closest city, 1st you have nothing to lose, 2nd you have a chance to try out the guide. This guide really works, but be really quiet near zombies, first item you need is a hatchet. Later you can collect the rest. To use slow crawl, double tap shift button. Works in other positions too.

Thanks for mentioning the keyboard functions. I didnt really think about having a section for the uninitiated that explained control and menu functions but now to think of it it took me forever to figure out I could change the face of my character in the options menu or that the bags eat loot when over stuffed so when I do the next update for the guide I will add in a section for control functions as well as game etiqette....hopefully we will have the new patch soon there was a brief update by a dev a couple days ago hinting it was right around the corner...

Quick update on the guide....Rocket ,rocket, rocket.........you clever bastard.... ..I am impatiently waiting for Day Z patch then I fall in love with the survival horror MMO The Secret World....so of course you release the patch to pull me back in......arrrghh.....I am torn at the moment but since I currently have a monthly sub to TSW till I can afford the life time one I will be playing that till It reaches that inevitable MMO grindfest mode in my brain. I will then come back here and update the guide with the new info....also servers are harder to get into now then a nuns panties so filling the frustration gap with fun is more sensible to me atm....sorry if you were waiting for an update rest assured it is coming. (Holds up hands nods and makes Rocket face).

If your bored of the servers loading screen come play TSW with me it is totaly worth buying graphics are insanely good (trust me noone streaming or reviewing it is doing that in it's direct x11 mode with full tesselation so it is only getting a bad rap graphically when it is actually the best in that category on the market atm) If your hanging in here, I will be back soon to bear trap you for dem beans...later

P.S.

here is a link to an awsome stream chick I was hanging with yesterday she features TSW and soon Guild Wars 2 she specializes in pvp and dungeons U will like promise....http://www.twitch.tv/aoiban
