FPS lag with gtx 580

Hi my specs are as follows:

any idea to why i get massive fps lag?

i try to run the game on high but it is litually unplayable especially on very high i get 2 fps. I can only run this game on normal even then i get around 40 fps max and sit on a average of 20 fps.

If there is any solutions i would like to hear them

Game should run at it's full capacity...You have almost best specs(if not the best).

It's extremely annoying seeing as i can run other games such as BF3 on ultra which is more graphics intensive.

You don't have ANY of the settings set to "low" do you? (They use the CPU instead of the graphics card when set to low)

You have the video memory setting set to very high in the advanced graphics options?

Also, to prevent the small delay you experience when moving the mouse, turn OFF mouse smoothing altogether, in the game controls screen.

Your system should run this game very smoothly so I suspect it is a local configuration issue. This is no reason to use anything other than high/very high settings, however some of them are particularly intensive such as the 10K draw distance, very high postprocessing and anti-aliasing, so you could try lowering those a bit to see if it makes a difference.

i can confirm all my settings are set to very high and v sync is off. Ill try lowering the post processing and anti aliasing

i just turned both of them off. made little difference.

i did a benchmark test with the following settings

very high settings for everything besides the anti aliasing and post processing which are turned off, 1920 x 1080 , 1680 x 945

16:9 wide screen.

its strange though it seems like it is using CPU instead of GPU seeing as my cpu was spiking from 20 - 40 % during the test and now its sitting on 3% whilst my ram was only at 31% constant.

any solutions??

There was a way with RamDisk(still is,but I can't find it).This is so it uses ur GPU not CPU!:)(or viceversa haha!:P)

Keep in mind, ARMA II is all about CPU and not GPU.

The only thing i can say is that the game isnt updated well on the terms of new technology.

you may see that a intel Q6660, and a 9800GT will run the game well, instead of a i7, and a 580...

just the way the game was written...

you can try a different server though, that seems to result in an increase of FPS.

op i have almost the same setup as you. have you overclocked cpu and gpu ?

ive set everything to very high , 3d internal to 1280x800 (im using 16:10). 40fps and up for me. forced vsync and tripple buffering with d3doverrider.

verified the game cache yet , or even defragment cache files ?

As asked before, have you tried different servers? Your FPS can depend heavily on this....

I wanted to make a thread about this problem too but seeing that someone else already did I wont bother.

I have the same problem, low fps once every 30s to 1min or so.The game is just unplayable and I am really frustrated because I bought this game only for DayZ just to see that its a clusterf*ck with tons of glitches/disconnects and just so you know I do have a pretty decent Pc, not the best but its enough to run a game like this.

CPU: AMD Phenom II 4x 3.4ghz

GPU: nvidia gtx 275

RAM: 4gb

HDD: Sata III 1.5 TB

Windows 7 64 bit

Same here. Arma2 is just too buggy. Something to do with its cache or sum.

This worked for me sometimes. I played on Multiplay servers and they didnt lag at all.

Try defragging your hard drive to start. Apparently installing ARMA 2 / DayZ can fragment your files pretty good.

Also make sure you have the "video memory" setting set to "default", as that will ensure it uses all your video card's memory.

Hey Emptytester, I think I found out the deal with the low fps...there is a problem when installing Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead through Steam.When I launch A2 OA in Steam after it finishes installing I get this first error saying bad serial number given in instalation.

I got past that somehow and now I get a new error saying Addon 'dayz_code' requires addon 'CABuildingParts'.

I can however enter the game and in the menu I recieve another error

"No entry 'bin\config.bin/Cfg/Vehicles/Citizen1.scope.

Errors and errors after errors...the files of A2 OA are simply f*cked and it is affecting the FPS, once every 1 min or so when I go to a new place I have like 4-6 fps for about 15 seconds like the game has to reload all the textures or something.

I have played Arma 2 normal to see how it runs and on a 30 player server the game runs crystal clear with graphics on high.

I tryied fixing the game cache in steam but nothing works, even reinstalled the game...im thinking of buying the retail version of arma again just because I want to play dayZ without having to suffer the fps once every 3 mins.

If anyone has a solution tell me.

Run steam as "administrator". And you won't get that serial number error.

Not sure why, but maybe it has something to do with the FPS lag ? (long shot but you never know).

I ran it and still I get the other errors I was talking about, when I verify the cache it finds a damaged file wich will repair but that will solve nothing.I exit Steam verify the cache again and still finds that file to be incomplete, then I enter the game with the 2 errors and I can play the game but choppy once every 3 minutes for 15 seconds or so. Its so frustrating cause I like DayZ so much and I cant enjoy it at its full capacity...

have you got more than one HDD ?

Could be a bad sector on the drive that it just keeps overwriting with the same thing (odd but possible), Perhaps try copying to another drive or (arrgh), re-download / re-install.

Just 1 sata III 1.5 TB, deframented yesterday so no I dont think thats the problem, just the some files from the game that are damaged or something.
