.54 No servers show up, and cant join friends game through steam

So my brother just bought DayZ after me badgering him to join me for months, and he gets it installed everything goes great until he tries to join a server... 

 

no servers show up for him, he tried setting his filters to allow everything, still nothing. when he tries joining me through steam it loads for a bit then says "the game status is unavailable" we tried multiple public servers and got the same message. verified his files, resinstalled, rebooted... nothing seems to work... I cant tell if its a DayZ issue, Battleye, or Steam problem causing this to happen...

 

anyone got any ideas?

 

please let me know if you need anymore info to make a proper diagnosis
