The future evolution of paint/coloring

Recommended Posts

Hello, I would like to make some suggestions regarding the recoloring mechanics in Dayz Standalone. We know that clothing recoloring will be in at some point (whenever the barrel is released) but we do not yet know exactly how these mechanics will work, so I will focus on the use of spray paints in-game. As most of you know, there are currently two colors in game - green and black, which can sometimes be combined to make camouflage - and a third color (red) is confirmed to be coming at some point. So, here are some of my suggestions on making the spray paint system better:

1. Customizable items: The amount of paintable items should be drastically increased. In my opinion every non-fabric piece of equipment should be able to be colored. This includes all melee weapons, guns, weapon attachments, binoculars/rangefinders, helmets, nylon equipment (raincoats, drybags, etc.), leather equipment, etc...basically anything that wouldn't be colored with basic fabric dye in real life. Furthermore, combined colors (i.e. black+green=camo) should be applicable on everything that can be painted.

2. Available colors: We should also have more options for colors to paint our equipment. Currently there is only black and green spray paint, and soon there will be red, but I would like some other colors. My suggestions for additional colors are blue, pink, white, and tan. With these additions, more color combinations would also be added into the game. To avoid an overly complicated painting system, I think that the amount of colors on a gun should be limited to two. If a gun already has two colors, attempting to add a third will offer you to replace one or both colors. For example, if you use red paint on a Mosin that already has green and black, you will have the following options: "Replace green paint with red paint," "Replace black paint with red paint," and "Paint Mosin 9130 red."

3. Combos: Of course, each combination of colors would have a unique color and pattern when combined. My suggestions for these are as follows, with examples where needed:

Black+Green=DPM (in-game)

Black+Red=Redpunk (in-game)

Black+Blue=Bluerock (in-game)

Black+Pink=Urban Camo A (http://media.moddb.com/images/members/1/341/340066/REDURBAN.jpg)

Black+White=Arctic Camo A (http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/x/camouflage-pattern-16485317.jpg)

Black+Tan=Urban Camo B (https://img1.etsystatic.com/034/0/6222180/il_340x270.583717619_jwin.jpg)

Green+Red=Flecktarn (in-game)

Green+Blue=Naval Camo A (http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0132/6432/products/teal_camo_1_1024x1024.jpg?v=1343273012)

Green+Pink=Flowers A (http://www.mycutegraphics.com/backgrounds/flower/flowerbg76.gif)

Green+White=Snowy Woodland (https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/15/35/22/153522682b58d3fe23dcb0f685411654.jpg)

Green+Tan=Woodland (the one that currently results from green+black)

Red+Blue='Merica Camo (http://rlv.zcache.com/red_white_and_blue_camo_posters-r09fb7267b04540a68288c4b4a3b2a7f5_wvk_8byvr_512.jpg)

Red+Pink=Hearts (http://image.naldzgraphics.net/2012/02/13-hearts.jpg)

Red+White=Rising Sun (http://www.imgbase.info/images/safe-wallpapers/miscellaneous/flags/42753_flags_japan_rising_sun_flag.jpg)

Red+Tan=Desert Camo A (http://i48.servimg.com/u/f48/11/28/71/91/100_3021.jpg)

Blue+Pink=Purple Camo (http://www.marshalldrygoods.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/KC-PURP.jpg)

Blue+White=Arctic Camo B (http://thefabricmarket.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/p-6136-CAMO-blue_1.jpg)

Blue+Tan=Naval Camo B (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51NqLBS1hxL.jpg)

Pink+Tan=Flowers B (http://content.mycutegraphics.com/backgrounds/flower/flowerbg130.gif)

Pink+White=Pink and White Stripes (Like the Pink Balaclava)

White+Tan=Desert Camo B (http://wallpoper.com/images/00/39/92/17/desert-camouflage_00399217.jpg)

(Please note, I know that many of these would not be helpful for camo or are not made with the most logical ingredient colors. All in the name of fashion/system consistency. I intended each color to be a general range of colors rather than one specific shade.)

I realize that there are more important things to add than camouflages, but in my opinion these would add a great deal of immersion and would most likely be easy to add. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and feel free to comment or add your own suggestions.
