My Suggestions List

Recommended Posts

Just for support, I really like all of Poisonman's ideas here: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=18229

If I see suggestions that I like, I'll probably put them here as well with any extra ideas I have for it.

Some of my own suggestions would be:

1. Zombies.

Zombies should be feared and at the moment, they don't worry me at all whatsoever. I feel like they should be able to move just as fast in buildings as outside of buildings. Their damage per hit, chance to break bones, and chance to knock you unconscious should all be toned down a bit though. Literally all you have to do is run straight through a town and get into a large building, then you're safe.

There should be more variance in the type of zombies as well. Some zombies can be faster than you, but for the most part, they shouldn't be. So to replicate this in game, maybe the crouching zombies will be faster than you (they're like animals and run on all fours and look wild, makes sense to me anyway), the standing zombies will be about the same speed (there seems to be a lot more of them than other zombies, so I feel like they should be the "standard" zombie), and the prone zombies will trip you/sprain your ankle or whatever more often (they're slow so it shouldn't be too hard to avoid them, and they're on the ground so the only thing they can attack is your legs, makes sense to me anyway).

I really like the zombie horde idea Poisonman had (I also thought of Walking Dead :p) and I feel like it would be good to have that implemented. Like others said though, I'm not sure if it's a viable idea due to the lag it may create, and I'm sure it would be tough to add that in anyway.

I also really liked his point on how zombies shouldn't immediately aggro to you if they hear a sound. They might start walking in your direction instead though, or start searching for you.

I feel that zombies shouldn't just be spawned randomly all throughout a town either. Of course there's no way to know how it would really be in a zombie apocalypse, but from movies and such, it seems like

2. Valuing one's life. (skills)

At the moment, it seems like a lot of people don't care too much if they die or not. The "pros" have a lot of stuff stockpiled up somewhere, or know where to quickly get stuff, and the newbies have nothing, so it's usually not too big of a deal if they die. I'm sure there have been other suggestions like this before, but I think some sort of skill system would be good to have. In my opinion, your skills would be "trained" with more experience and with time (depending on what it is). There could be a lot more "skills" with new features in the game, but here are a few ideas:

- Running faster. The longer you live/the more you run/etc, you build up a better physique and then you can run faster and calm down quicker after running (so you can aim). Of course this would take some time to build up, and it wouldn't be a huge thing, but it adds some value to staying alive longer.

- Toughness. Due to living in the wilderness for a long time, you become more resilient. Maybe you can take an extra shot or two before dying, or maybe you're less likely to break bones.

- Cooking. The more animals you gut and the more meat you cook, the better you get at it. There could be varying qualities of meat (based on cooking, it would get pretty complicated if different animals dropped different meat, but that's an option as well) that heal different amounts of blood. Sometimes you could burn the meat too, it might happen quite often at first. You might not get as many meat steaks off an animal when you gut them if your cooking skill is low.

- Calmness. I think I read this in Poisonman's suggestion list. When you're near zombies, you should be a pretty shaky. However, as time goes on and you get used to seeing zombies everywhere, this dies down. It would just be a subtle thing, but it adds a little more value to staying alive longer. At first, when you're near zombies, you'll be pretty shaky, but with more zombie kills and with more time being near zombies, you'll be a stone-cold zombie killer with no fear whatsoever.

Like I said, with more features (crafting, breaking locks, howiring, etc) there could be a lot more skills, but those were some ideas off the top of my head for what we have now. I also feel like, if those ideas were to be added, people would have to start off "below average" if our current characters' states were considered average. So when you first spawn, you'll be a little slower, you'll be a poor cook, and you'll take a little more damage than normal. As time goes though, you'll be faster than the current running speed is, you might get more food easier (might need to tone down the amounts, 8 steaks off a cow is a lot and might only be possible if you have a high cooking skill or something), and you'll take a little less damage.

3. More "usable" items.

Maybe there could be more clothing. Camo, green clothing, maybe even clothing that adds extra features to your character. A ghillie suit might make you run slower and require more food/water, also you should be louder when you move but harder to see (to zombies). Also, with the ghillie suit, maybe you can only wear some of the smaller packs (maybe not a good idea because then bandits with a ghillie suit would drop less loot so you get less rewards for killing them). Wearing lighter clothing might make you quieter, quicker, and less often in need of food/water. Camo of course would help you blend in a little more than the current clothing. Maybe some body armor could be available, or even a riot shield type of thing. A carryable bag that takes the primary weapon slot and can add a bunch of inventory slots might be nice for someone who's just trying to quickly raid a town for a lot of supplies.

Maybe you could find more drugs in hospitals, like some type of adrenaline shot that makes you run faster or amplifies sound by a bit. Maybe it could be possible that your character gets "sick" (not infected) and coughs/sneezes from time to time that makes noise and you need to get medicine or something to get rid of it (that idea is a little meh, but a possibility if touched up, I think).

Maybe you could throw meat/drop meat so if zombies are chasing you, they'll just go to the meat instead. Probably just one zombie distracted per steak is good. This would be pretty useful if zombies are made so they can run through buildings instead of being forced to walk. You'd be able to use the meat to lose some zombies if they're chasing you, and it would make meat and cooking more valuable.

4. Crafting (suggested quite often, I'm sure)

Now, I feel like crafting in the game could be pretty awesome. First off, you'd need some tools in order to start crafting. A toolbox, for sure, and maybe some other items that could be added. Maybe you'll have to find a place where there's a work bench for you to use. A few craft-able item ideas:

- Head lamp. Maybe hard hats could be found in industrial areas and you could attach a flashlight to it. OR, of course, this item could just be found in rock quarry areas (similar to mining, I suppose, but there aren't any true "mines" in the map, so crafting it might be better)

- Attaching a knife to a gun. As of right now, it's annoying to pull out your hatchet and move your gun to your pack/the floor in order to silently take out zombies (unless you have a silenced gun or w/e). If you could attach a knife to some of the longer rifles, you could just use that instead. I don't know if this is possible, however, as I don't think there's a "use melee attack" button or anything, but I think it would be cool.

- I know bear traps are being added, maybe you'd be able to craft traps of some sort then?

- Crafting a quiver/steel bolts for the crossbow would be nice.

- Crafting a splint type of thing. Would be nice to have so that you're not forced to be prone if you break a bone. With the splint, you'd move quite a bit slower than running, but at least you wouldn't have to be prone everywhere you go.

That's all for now. I'll probably add to this though, as I have more ideas, I just don't want to keep repeating what other people have said. I'll look through the forums before I add anything just to make sure it's not already suggested, unless I really like the idea, then I might add it and post the link to where I saw the idea. Also, I don't know much about how the game works, so I don't even know if a lot of these ideas are even possible, but I think they would be nice.

Also, I'm sure there are a lot of spelling mistakes, so I apologize for those ^^ just typing quickly.
