how do you make a splint

how do you make a splint in 0.54? i tried relogging,it only worked once. i keep pressing "w" while trying but nothing happens. anyone figured it out? i really need my splints :P

Bandage+sticks works fine, rags+sticks I found I either need to be pressing w or z whilst conducting the craft for it to commence.
