treva_l@hotmail.com 6 Posted July 1, 2012 Recently, my group got into a large firefight. A group had called out the one I belonged to, so we moved into NW to take them on. When we entered, the firefight began, and we started taking them out. But, as soon as we shot ones with big weapons (L8A5, and others), as soon as they were hit with the bullets they alt+f4'd. This also happened later when we tracked one of the stragglers. As soon as he was on the ground, he alt+f4'd and we lost him as well. This is very frustrating, not only for us, but I imagine for everyone else. I feel that it would be possible to add in a "suicide" if you are to drop out like this. Just have alt+f4, or closing the game with out exiting be an auto suicide perhaps? I'm not sure, I'm just frustrated with the amount of people who want firefights, but as soon as they are close to losing the fight they quit out.
Dazbuzz 0 Posted July 1, 2012 Not sure if its possible, but i like the idea. Anything to stop these cheaters(i suppose its cheating-ish) is a good thing in my eyes. The only problem i can see, is that if the client crashes, would it not be seen as alt+f4ing out of the game? Could be a problem for a few unlucky players. rovenkursk 4 Posted July 1, 2012 How do you know they al+f4? They could have manually disconnected, which is much more likely. Bad idea, sorry this would just be a pain in the ass and wouldn't solve anything.
harryzhe 28 Posted July 1, 2012 Ive talked about this a lot with my group, and personally I think the best option would be to make quitting in dayZ take 20-30 seconds countdown. That way, if the game suddenly crashed, it wouldnt interpret it as you DCing and penalise you with suicide. My only problem with doing something like that would be that currently, zombies can get tripped for imo, unacceptable reasons (for example tripping zeds from behind walls still does happen) and in situations like that, disconnecting is acceptable. It's espescially bad if you're sneaking through a town with a loud weapon, and no intention to discharge it, when suddenly you hear a scream from the building you're sneaking past, and some zombie arms flying out of it trying to get you.Until that problem is solved, maybe a 5-10 second delay is more acceptable. I dunno.Even that small amount of time would have resulted in the rightful deaths of so many dudes i've encountered...
Dazbuzz 0 Posted July 2, 2012 Having a delay before your character disconnects from the server is the idea Rocket seems to like best. But it doesnt seem to work with the alt+f4ing. It is a nice way to deal with the problem though, if he can fix it.

wolfsburg62 66 Posted July 2, 2012 They are pussies and should all be hanged! Once you have been fatally injured the game should recognize this and force the player to respawn upon next restart.
ExoMax 4 Posted July 2, 2012 Not sure about you guys but alt-f4 doesn't even work for me ingame. No idea why.Exactly.I guess it would work if you were running windowed mode, but hitting alt+f4 whilst fullscreen does absolutely nothing. Try it for youself. At this point, you can't press esc and manually disconnect. The only way out is to close your client completely. And I'm not saying this is the greatest Idea in the world, I just want something done about it.
vision1776 42 Posted July 2, 2012 A 10 second logout would solve this problem. If your computer crashes well, you are out of luck. Your computer crashing is probably a bigger problem anyway. This has to be implemented. A 10 second logging out action which if it is not completed you loose all progress. This will probably be a headache for SOME players but for the majority of people it will be a huge FIX to the cheating going on this game. I know of some players that log out and then rejoin your server behind you. Logging out doesnt save your location. You have to choose a spawn location somewhere on the map (spread out all over the map not just the shores.) That way this ALSO abused system can be stopped. No more server hopping to reloot the same towns over and over.
qla 0 Posted July 2, 2012 I too think the most simple fix for alt-f4 is to change the 5 minute "punishent" (that can be cured with the epi-pen, so it's not really an punishent for a group of alt-f4 bandits) to an auto suicide, the corpse should stay at the server of course.Maybe implement this for now, and then add the ~30 second timer later, if it's even possible? Yarrick68 (DayZ) 26 Posted July 2, 2012 I think a small delay in logout would make a huge difference. 5 seconds will not kill you vs zombies if you accidently disconnect with lag and server issues. But in a firefight, as someone already said, it would give you enough time to finish people off. At least a lot more than it does now.
