Take 2 of the same ruined item and make badly dmg one

While I was reading this:

The last prototype I would like to mention is the one which was done for the advanced crafting. It's flexible enough to be used as a field crafting and also table crafting. The point is that you need to put all your items from which you want to craft something new in front of you then equip right tool in your hand and directly interact with the item pool to produce the desired new crafted item. This solution is giving us few important possibilities like adding meaning to the plethora of tools we already have in game, crafting complex items without need of intermediate products which are most of the time useless. As well, turn some of the stationary tables with machinery in houses and industry structures to crafting tables where you will be able to produce crafted rails for scopes, modify weapons and do other advanced processes.

It made me think about an idea I had a while ago. Right now there is no value in any ruined items in the game outside maybe clothes, what if you could take 2 ruined items of the same type and make them into one badly damaged item which could then be repaired from there the normal way items can be repaired now. That would be some incentive to carry around a ruined peice of rare equipment that otherwise would just be sitting there useless. IRL if you know your way around, say... computer hardware or something, theres a good chance you can take 2 broken PCs and make one good one out of it, this also applies to just about anything else and to me it seems to fit well in a survival scenario as you would be scavenging for just about anything worthwhile no matter the condition.

Though I never imagined anything would be done with those machine shops in game, I had previously thought about using them for the same things. Perhaps more mechanically complex or delicate items would require the equipment in these or other shops to be able to make a badly damaged item from 2 ruined ones, such as scopes or firearms. Other types of items like axes might require a table clamp or maybe just a hammer, nails and duct tape/rope or something to pound the axehead back on and whatnot. There would be many items that obviously you wouldn't be able to do this with as well, such as ruined food or containers.

Firearms would lend themselves to this mechanic. You could conceivably field strip two completely ruined (and non-functional) weapons to collect enough good parts to assemble a working sample.

Well I guess this could work. But at the same time the ruined objects needs to keep there status in a way. The ruined stuff should not be able to work at all. So for example. If you have a ruined shirt. It's no longer a shirt. It's some rags that you can't use to anything more than improvised bandage or something to tie something or someone up with. I think that the thing you're suddgesting should go for badly damaged stuff instead, and maybe some ruined stuff that would make sense could be re-created. I'd like to see this idea in the game, most defenatly. But it should go "deeper". For example. You should not be able to repare a ruined gun unless you find new parts for it. So instead of that you find two ruined mosins and combine them for a damaged one. You should instead have to have one ruined mosin and then find some mosin parts. (even though that wouldn't be that realistic with that specific gun-model since it's from the Second World War). So with maybe a screwdriver, a ruined mosin and some mosin parts you should be able to re-create the mosin to a better condition depending on what condition the parts are in.

Sorry for this long comment on your thread but this is something I have thought about for a while, and I think that this would bring a improved survivery feeling to the game with a lot of half own made stuff.

That's the idea, take parts from one item and use them to replace the bad ones on the other.
