Dxtory and x264 codec

Hi guys,

Really struggling to figure out a solution to my problem. Ever since I updated to 0.53 and the little patches released this week I can't record anymore with Dxtory using the x264 codec (I use it because it creates nicely compressed files etc).

When I open dayz and hit record it starts recording, when I end the recording it says 'fin' and doesn't save the file. When I close DayZ and try to relaunch it, it says the game is already running, this I figured might be to do with the 'fin' issue and dxtory locks the DayZ process in task manager.

However if I use one of the other codecs, it works fine and doesn't cause any problems, recordings save but the downside is that they are huge (6gb for 15 mins of footage) hence why I use x264.

I have reinstalled dxtory and the codecs and that doesn't make a difference. All software is up to date.

Dxtory works in every other game, the exception being arma 3 where the same thing occurs.

Could this be an issue with the update to battleye? If so, any ideas for a workaround?

Does dxtory have an anticheat compatibility mode? Try that.

Should be this, seen a few other recording programs such as OBS having the same issue with the recent update.

I have the same issue. Shadowplay recordings look really bad quality wise. And the x264 for dxtory makes the game crash, and it doesnt record at all for me. All this happened after 0.53 update.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies. I appear to have resolved the issue, I'm not entirely sure exactly what I did that made it work. Dxtory didn't have an anticheat option I could see anywhere, so don't think it has one at all.

Firstly, I reinstalled the latest Dxtory, I deleted the x264 codec form my system. Restarted pc. Installed x264 again. As a result of all this I had to completely reconfigure x264. I made sure that virtual dub hack is checked in the advanced settings, if I uncheck this I get problems with it crashing.

Secondly, in the options tab where you can select the number of cores/threads for Dxtory to use. Made sure to leave those as default, some guides suggested using all the cores available but that seemed to cause more problems.

Thirdly, and I don't know if this made any difference at all, but in my set up for the audio recording I had originally set it as record game audio to track one, microphone to track two. I accidentally removed the game audio so microphone went to track one, when I set the game audio to track two. I vaguely remember from a forum years ago that this can affect recording problems. And somehow after doing all these things it works again perfectly, no DayZ hanging, no failed recordings.

I'll post some screenshots when I get home in a few hours. Stuck in the office at the moment.

I'm not sure what made Dxtory work again using the x264 codec, but i hope these screenshots help.
