Server Connection Interface

Recommended Posts

Hello.

I'm one of those people who has to deal with the IP server requests crashing my internet.

I know the developers have put this on a to do list to be resolved.

I'd like to mention a lot of the routers being crashed by this server search behavior are still being sold and manufactured, and are perfectly functional pieces of equipment. I've yet to see a video game list under the recommended requirements, a list of router models, or support of specific routing features to play that particular game.

That being said, I'd say that this could be resolved by buying a new router. But...  I'm not using a standard modem, and I don't have that option.

My questions are more less surrounding the decision of the GUI interface for the server browser.

1. Could the interface be changed to display favorites without first polling them and displaying whether or not they are under a certain ping or even online? In other words, could they be made to be always visible?

2. Could the "Remote" direct address connection tab be completely separated from the internet, favorite, etc. list tabs interface? Because it automatically starts polling for servers, just loading the change server screen can cause the internet crashing behavior. Also, instead of polling for the response and displaying it, could it attempt to directly connect to the input address + port?

3. Could the default behavior for when the last server you played is down for whatever reason be to drop you to the main menu? Instead of jumping straight to the change server interface...

BTW - This has helped reduce how often my internet goes down after browsing for servers. https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2161-WUHC-8978
