Sekra's DayZMap

So here it is. A few people in IRC have gotten some wip versions but now its time to release it:

Please download and save the map rather than viewing it from the website so our http server doesnt explode or we dont exceed our traffic quota.

The main map features:

-All wells where you can refill your waterbottles

-Towns in english and russian

-Mountains

-Lakes and other bodies of water

-Hospitals

-General Stores

-Railroads

-Created using the arma engines EMF export capability meaning its more accurate than any other map around (others have buildings and stone fences etc missing)

The .zip file is for those who want to save a few bytes downloading and if your browser can't open the 18Mb .png file.

All feedback and suggestions are appreciated!

if you can add more detail like the location of military camps, air strips, churches and fire stations etc . These along with a Grid and scale would make navigation and measureing distance and looting allot easier.

there are other maps with these litle tidbits but none with the resolution and detail you have here.

Here i add 2 maps with some of the things i would love to see here

takes away the exploration aspect of the game if you kn0ow where the loot spawns are (grocery stores, hospitals, wells etc.)

Another great map and with good dertail

Another idea try to color the building/object instead of circling it :P

if thats not possible i can see why others just do that with their maps but it just doesnt look as good or organic to the map when i see those icons/circles on top of them.

Your right but if ANYONE is looking for a map online its not so they can keep true to the game, afterall you dont even have a map in-game untill you find one.

good start but are you putting all the deer stands on it? plus the military barracks and tents????

or do I have to merge them myself?

The one airfield along with the two airstrips are both named on the map already. I'll try to seek out the church and firestation models for the next update so I can mark them on the map. The military camps are a bit iffy since they are not actual mapobjects but rather created with scripts. Unfortunately the EMF export uses the old grid system from waaay back from who knows when and thus is "broken" compared to the current ingame one and something I cannot fix. Numbering the grids would simply be confusing since they're wrong.

Well as you can clearly see the first one is badly cluttered without any proper detail on where the things are. You only do get a really general idea from that map. The second one has a lot better detail but there are things like the grid is completely wrong compared to the real ingame one (which you can see in the first map) since that version of the map is missing a kilometer or two up north and west of the map. Along that its missing buildings here and there and has some erronous data too.

The idea here is to level the playingfield with new players vs. people like me that have been playing on Chernarus for so long that it usually takes me around 3 minutes in darkness after starting to know exactly where I am on the map and where I'm going next. Also except the locations of the wells which was actually the reason why I made this map for myself in the first place, I can pretty much remember from the top of my head after seeing a town or village exactly what it holds in it. Chernarus is an original Arma 2 map from 2009 and I've been playing on it ever since launch so yeah...

Might be worth a try but if I paint 2x2 pixels blue to mark a well on a 15300 x 15300 pixel map how will you ever find it? ;) I also don't use 100% opacity so you can hopefully see the details under the colours of the circles too. I too don't like to see a big icon on top of a town blocking the data underneath.

Both maps have a 1KM grid identical to the one found in-game. The grid on your map is incorrect, a known issue with exporting EMFs. Same with buildings - I have never seen a map, in-game or out, that displayed everything.
